I use both the hidden honeypot and a random javascript injection that has to be matched server-side. Both have to pass. The "problem" with this kind of tricks is that they works for small/medium website and only if they are not adopted as p

The idea is nice, but I see a couple of problem with that kind of implementation: 1) You don't have/won't access your email account on that computer (ex: Internet Cafe) 2) Spam filters that may delay the mail and so will delay the ability t

I may understand something like this if it was for his own personal blog, not on zdnet. It will still be a very bad analogy with a worse conclusion but at least in a "it's my opinion I say what I want" kind of way.

We did something similar for a search webpage. But with some query it could take too much and the slowing down of the bar filling wasn't well met with both our users and our boss. We changed that with bogus writing under the progress bar. T

Working on a company where 80% of our revenue is because of advertising I disagree. There are two main difference between the RIAA "every pirate is a stolen sale" and adblock. 1)When you "pirate" something it doesn't mean that you "pirate"

IE9 is actually not that bad, and IE 10 should hopefully be very good. As a developer my bigger problem with IE9 is that sometimes I forget to comment a console.log after testing. Their problem is that they want to be "pixel-perfect" across

You still can put a big red sign with "This browser is not supported, here's why.", and let the user decide if they want to try it with IE just to see if is worth it the browser change.

People are way more willing to take the time to write a bad review if they feel that something wrong was done to them than take the same time to leave a positive review, even if you ask them to. The only one that will leave a good review wi

I heard that alot, but haven't actually seen that proven yet. It's a very good excuse to force people on improving their HTML and website speed, but I still would like to see the impact of the Google organic results after only speed improv

Shouldn't there be a middle ground between the two ? "501 programmers" or "I eat breathe and live programming" People that usually go at home around 5:15 but some times are there longer because they want to finish something they are doing.

While some Ideas are good (I love the collaborative online recording studio) this doesn't address the main point of the other post. The main idea of this blog is that the answer to "I have lot of users, how can I generate money ?" is "Get m

Yeah, it's not really great either. The about:memory page in Firefox is a little bit too technical compared with the about:memory in chrome that is, at least, simple and easy to understand what is going on. In Firefox I still see a lot of

Not yet, but getting there. Also the bazillion extension that exist for Firefox are not really helping. A "task manager" to be able to keep on eye on all extensions memory consumption (and be able to kill the extension from the browser) sho

While I agree with the main point of the post(optimization, caching)the title is a bit of an exaggeration. On a normal website 10M hits will not be evenly during the day this example hits are only an avarage of 10Kb, and the number of conc

I really like the idea. It's a nice way to go to what "probably" are the most interesting topics when you don't have much time. I think that being able to click directly on the heatmap instead of having to close it first, and therefore not

It depends where you live. In a world where privacy is valued they should not open the other packages if they don't have a valid reason (backed up by a court order). If you start thinkging that "statistically speaking" is a valid reason to

No,the pasword could be crypted in the DB and decrypted for the recovering password mail. Still not the best solution, hashed password (with a salt) are way more secure if your password happens to be 12345.

I think that will defeat the purpose of file sharing. The fact is that Switzerland is treating piracy like drugs. It's not that bad if you use them, it's definitely bad if you are selling them.

It's worth mentioning that in Switzerland only downloading copyrighted material for personal use is Legal, not uploading. So P2P and file sharing is still illegal since you are uploading while downloading.
