Person at the end of the article is missing the point because they don’t understand that bitflips and other corruption can happen with digital storage.

Good post; tl;dr these sentences at the end: > In my notes, there’s a phrase which really stuck in my mind – “understanding the numbers has to come from understanding the business. People go badly wrong when they try to do it the other

How? Who will represent that viewpoint in the halls of congress? The EFF is politically ineffective and always has been for reasons I don't understand, and no one else seems to care.

I'm with you -- I've assembled a lot of random stuff recently and I wish everyone had instructions half as good as IKEA's.

The problem with used IKEA furniture is that it's all DIY-assembled. You don't really know if it was built properly.

Have you never been in an IKEA store? They sell a lot of solid wood. I have IKEA furniture that's lasted for decades. It's value-optimized, but it's usually well designed; if you put it together properly, it will last.

The problem here is what people believe are reasonable and what is actually reasonable are pretty far apart. COVID will cripple you for the rest of your life if you're unlucky. Chance of that happening increases greatly with each infec

The article is pretty light on facts. I wish there was some real analysis here. There's no shame in going to CSU traditionally; lots of great schools in the system and certainly fine alumni.

You can be arrested for a protest. You can also be shot and killed without consequences for protesting in some scenarios. Whether either of these survive a SCOTUS challenge, not sure, but in the meantime it sure fucking happens. We’re less

That’s simply not how people work. Everyone is programmed by environment and genetics. Breaking your programming requires a change in perspective (remember Alan Kay: “point of view is worth 80 IQ points”) — whether forced by circumstance, c

That's not true; apps with non-native UI were usually scorned by Mac users. KPT and other Metatools or (whatever they called themselves that week) stuff was an exception.
