Genuine question since I don’t live in a city which experiences severe weather events annually: what is the financial incentive in rebuilding destroyed homes, businesses and other infrastructure every few years? Does that actually lead to a

JQ is great once you get the hang of it. Some time back I had to write some simple tests on JSON output and I wrote a couple of helpers if anyone else is interested [0]. [0] https://gist.github.com/Checksum/72d927471c76

While I don’t doubt that the actual deaths from covid is far higher than what’s officially reported, I find the attempts to come up with a multiplier amusing. India has never had high quality data to use as a baseline, even those reported f

OT: is it a given that the person responsible (the captain?) will be fired once this is over? Can the org running the Suez Canal deny entry to vessels by black listing the captain?

That is definitely the reason I haven't tried to develop anything for the Apple ecosystem even though I've used it for more than a decade. $100 a year is wasted money for hobby projects which may not even be published in an app st

I don't have a horse in the game - but I feel this will only deepen the divide in US politics. Trump and his followers aren't going to disappear. They will be even more isolated in a new site/app they setup and without this l

It’s 2021 and macOS still doesn’t support DisplayPort MST on a $3500 laptop. Bought two expensive Dell USB-C monitors and found that I can’t daisy chain them - have to connect them individually, taking up two ports.

As someone who takes paracetamol instead of NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) because of increased sensitivity, this scares me. I do have a hard cut-off of three 500mg tablets in 24 hours, and I never take more than 500mg in a 6 hour period. I sh

This is good news for everyone. Countries which can’t afford to or don’t have the expertise to thoroughly test and review multiple vaccines can take a cue from the ones that have approved them. Supply is a different issue of course.

This is Twitter as a company and the people running it choosing what they feel is right or wrong. We can endlessly argue if they should do it, but it is well within their rights to do so anyway.
