This is a pretty big problem. I've given it some thought, but haven't cone across a good answer. Incentivizing this is hard right now. The best idea I've had is to minimize effort for negative experiments. Like arxiv, but per

Replace startups with research and you had me for a while. I had to ban myself from even reading academic papers (it's like my cocaine) and get a regular job. Academia? Naa, I don't touch the stuff anymore.

Yeah. This may end up costing a huge amount with no results. Apple (and it's employees) doesn't have much incentive to crack the device although someone might be curious and use this as a good time to look for security holes on th

I think there's a certain category. I was an A and C student depending on how useful I expected a course to be. I also took much harder courses than my peers and social engineered my way into honors classes (I sucked at calculus, but t

This might be because she's a model; a job where intellect isn't a huge factor (smart people can be models too, but there's no requirement). People are dicks, but taking advice from a model is probably a bad idea. Male models

Stack overflow has an interesting difference to most websites: their users provide their content. Users that run ad-block are still potentially valuable.

The article is asking why this is the case. My guess is lack of ports, which would have facilitated business in the past and created a cultural tradition of business in other areas.

It's hard to have a meritocracy when a limited set of people make decisions for (or otherwise own) the company and are beholden to VC money. The flat structure is better for creating new products than squeezing money out of what exists

I get by with less in America with no problem, mostly out of habit since I can afford 'nicer' things. Buy beer at a store (you can get more than one for less money!), cook food with your friends, don't buy overpriced coffee a

I worked in a lab with a professor who spent a portion of time training new graduate students to be creative again (tons of handouts on it and so on). It can be taught to some degree; our brains don't just stop changing completely in a

I don't think it would ever happen, but the only real counter I can think of to that is modifying our brains to have intermittent periods where they are more plastic than normal. Honestly, our current system works really really well...
