I'd be interested to better understand the timeline around this statement: "Metaserver was stuck on a deprecated legacy framework that unsurprisingly had poor performance and caused maintenance headaches due to esoteric bugs. For

I just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed using simpleisbetterthancomplex over the years. I run a Django development agency, and I've passed around links to your tutorials more times than I can reliably estimate; hundreds of time

I live in Blackpool. On Sunday, I was walking north from North Pier, slightly below the sea wall; with the sound of the waves rolling over the vast beach (rated as "Excellent"). There was pure January light reflecting from those i

The majority of apps need a very small subset of database features; they need somewhere to park strings and numbers in a reliable way, and retrieve them (sometimes in order). The Django ORM supports this across all of the backends it suppor

`import asyncio` is a standard part of Python. `aiohttp` is a a 3rd party package if you want a more succinct expression of the same functionality.

There are no winners or losers here, just unexpected feedback in an unexpected forum. Best to move on from it. To your broader point about reviewing libraries; it is an interesting area. I feel that a lot of people (myself included) will as

Wayland remains very immature, and it still has significant shortcomings in hardware support. It's a beta-level technology at best, while Xorg has 20 years of stability behind it. It isn't responsible to suggest it as an alternati

This seems very useful; a universal solution at the OS level makes it easier to firm the habit of using PTT rather than relying on each individual app to offer (and then need to configure) PTT. On a related note, I started using Nvidia'

That is a pretty flippant comparison. I’m the trustee of a regional women’s shelter; we run a small building of 8 apartments which we offer to women and children as short-medium term refuges at no cost. The people who arrive with us are exp

I read that paragraph as they have moved on from “scummy Etherium ... nonsense”. We always need convenient monikers for concepts and while “dapp” isn’t the most elegant, it is no worse than “cloud”. The fact that people are putting their cr

Ah. I don’t have Apple News installed. I get prompts to install it occasionally which I decline. I didn’t realise it was the default handler for RSS feeds.

There has been huge advances in this area recently. Real-time ray-tracing and lighting is Nvidia’s primary marketing push right now with their RTX cards. Unity/Unreal/Blender can all produce very high fidelity real time lighting w

Off-topic: I absolutely love the design choices made by the author of this site. It's the basic browser stylesheet with some nice refinements. A real triumph of minimalism and incredibly readable.

It is the EU's job to do both, but neither is done to the exclusion of the other. We are lucky to have such a privacy-focused federal body which can bring about change effectively. I'm thrilled at the passing of GDPR, for example.

I imagine that is due to the combination of easily available firearms in the US and the ethically dubious position of a lot of SV companies. I work in the UK and I have only worked in one office with a security desk. Most are very relaxed.
