Your question presupposes that the main reason for Java's widespread adoption was that it runs in a VM. That is not true. Java as a language was designed to be significantly more productive than C++ in the context of enterprise softwar

The JVM is primarily used for backend server processes that run 24/7. Instant startup time is irrelevant in that context and so it was never a design objective. The HotSpot VM is specifically designed and optimized for long running ser
