I have a Samsung TV similarly hobbled. I simply never gave it a network connection and it works fine. For now at least this really isn't an issue. If and when these companies ever start requiring a network connection it's a diff

Yeah I think it was a huge missed opportunity. The idea was great, the barrier to entry was really low, and it worked really well for stuff like street view / google earth. I showed it to my daughter the other day and she was really im

Yeah they've been slow to release end-user facing stuff but it's obvious that they're just grinding away internally. They've ceded the fast mover advantage, but with a massive installed base of Android devices, a team of

And now we do have Hetzner replying here (and on reddit), and it sounds like they did indeed communicate the termination well in advance (but for whatever reason the OP didn't notice it at the time). None of this is to say that Hetzner

The only downside is the increasingly onerous attestation requirements that are eventually going to infect virtually all proprietary software for Android. If you only care about running open source code, you're golden.

There are plenty of plausible explanations, but it probably wouldn't have been a huge lift to get Thompson's itinerary from his secretary by spearfishing or some other form of social engineering.

It's a tiresome bit of pedantry. Try this: when people on hn claim "ah but it's not calorie intake versus calorie expenditure!" you can assume in good faith that what they REALLY mean is "you are correct that it IS

I agree and don't think you should be downvoted for this opinion. With only one side of the story it's impossible to draw any conclusions yet. Of course there is usually a bit of a chicken and egg issue with this sort of thing. Ma

The amount of money flowing into it has been a real shock. I too played with bitcoin many years ago, mining on my CPU. Like a sucker I got rid of it because it clearly was not useful at its stated purpose. Why have we created an economy whe
