My 11yo came home from school today: "Dad! We can't get rid of any of our Roald Dahl books. They're changing the words in them. My class talked about it and we all think it's stupid". A few months back, my 16yo was

Why it is weird? In both cases, as the GP said, the concept of womanhood is being erased.

> There seems to be this weird erasure of women taking place at the moment. This is the crazy thing. After a century of legitimate struggle for equality, women are having the language of feminism turned on them to deny the existence of f

I really enjoy being a father. It is 100% worth it. But the first 4 or 5 years are brutal . Tack on a few more if your kids a "special needs". There is a ton of that period is which is amazing and profound. I think in general par

The "public health or morals" clause certainly leaves the door open for abuse. But it's still more useful than talking about the First Amendment as if it applies to the whole world. I also think it's useful to frame righ

I'm not sure if many people realize the the UNHCR has the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights[0], ratified by ~180 countries. Unlike the First Amendment, the preamble the the ICCPR makes it clear that it is concerned w

I don't know about that. I have teenagers (boys, though) who has no interest in social medial or alcohol. In many ways they're far more sensible than I was at their age.

> What does lower interest rates have to do with lower rents? Interest rates affect repayments. Higher repayments mean that the rent an owner is willing to accept will be higher (or, they won't enter the market). Your whole model se

When rates are lower, more people can "afford" to buy a house because the repayments are lower. Lower rates also (all thing being equal) means lower rents.

In general, we have variable rate loans, though you can choose fixed rates for a certain period (usually 1-5 years). So yes, it should be more liquid than the US.

There's an interview with John Danaher talking about if his student, and widely considered the best grappler of all time, Gordan Ryan, could compete with a grizzly or even a chimp. It's a fun listen.

6:15? Holy crap. High school here (Australia) starts at 8:50. And even then I think that's too early for natural teenage sleep patterns. My kids are lucky in that we're close enough to school that they can leave at around 8:15. Wh

Well, there are plenty of examples outside of the US's fairly young history where revolution has not always gone so well. Plus, I think one could argue that the US is still to prove that it can survive the aftermath of the Civil War. S

To interpret the quote charitably, I think it's more that age can come with an appreciation with the fragility of society, the recognition that it's a miracle it works at all, and a humility about how much and how rapidly a system

While it's pretty badly written, the book Die With Zero changed my perspective on retiring a bit. I'm not sure I'd recommend reading it, but maybe reading a summary of the core ideas would be useful. The main take-away for me

Yeah, that's kinda of my point. Google is a incredibly successful capitalistic entity, but is punishing an employee for being biased in favor of ability. Favoring ability is rather core to capitalism.
