Thank you for most of the points, it's easy to miss the good parts of development of the recent years. I don't however agree with this one: "It will take a few years, but I'm sure we'll have a viable alternative to

So, maybe, the washing machine could have a... web page? No proprietary app store (where the app disappears when not updated to support the new OS version), no installation, usable from any device?

I have an EEE 1005HA laptop with N270, 2 GB RAM and an old SSD. I'm running the latest Debian (it is the last version to support x86-32) with Xfce and I'm using it to read books in fbreader and Okular, play podcasts and SD videos

The batteries can usually be refurbished (if the BMS is not too clever / requiring special software to setup), and maybe only one or two cells of the whole pack have failed - this would mean replacing only these and thus low waste.

Someone suggested a better project for Hungary (and surrounding countries): https://www.abclinuxu.cz/images/screenshots/1/0/250401-pouzi... It requires only a small dam near Golubac.

Or you can buy a dehumidifier (I have Sencor SDH 2020WH). This leaves you "only" with the CO2 problem, which requires less ventilation than to let out moisture (YMMV).

This is handled for example by fake-hwclock package in Debian (also RaspberryPi OS, installed by default) - it saves it in file, and even updates it every hour (so you won't teleport more than a hour back in time after unclean reboot).

The beamwidth of a standard weather radar is 1 degree. You can get to maybe 0.3° accuracy if you are pinpointing the maximum carefully. So this is 400m at 70km distance - which is not that bad. You then need to evaluate which parts of this
