Well, what's China going to do as we print our way out of our debt to them? If they get bellicose, then our nukes will come in handy. If they sit there and take what will essentially be a default on our debt via printing, then will be be

Sorry for the "me too", but absolutely agree. I feel like the two functionalities (twitter-like asymmetry, and facebook-like keeping track of your friends) are at odds. Either an option for all but "following" in the stream or else making

Congrats. On Chrome, when I click to the right in the screenshots, eventually all screenshots get shifted over to the right by half a screen.

Did anyone else notice that points 1, 2, and 3 in the article sound like really good things? People saving more, employees being employed more efficiently, companies not being over-exuberant (which is what leads to bubbles in the first pla

I am lucky enough to have volunteers from the community who do various support roles. They can't do it all, but do about 90% of it, which makes my life way easier. I can take my laptop and do the tickets I need to do in about an hour ever

I forgot who said it recently, but I thought it was a really interesting point that printing money to pay the debt is like partially defaulting.

Total tax burden includes sales tax that you pay on what you spend, property tax, gas tax, payroll taxes, taxes on utility bills, dog license fees, etc. I don't think 40% is completely far fetched. Not sure how exactly one would calculate

Maybe I misunderstood, but I got the feeling from the OP I was responding to that he was suggesting we fill more potholes in order to stimulate the economy. I'm kind of working off the assumption that we are already filling the important p

I think you have a good point about filling potholes being cheaper than repairing cars, but that wasn't really the point I was making. (I'm not necessarily against filling potholes, just filling potholes excessively as make-work.) I was ju

Don't fall for the broken window fallacy. If the government wasn't taking money from people via taxation to pay for pothole fillers, then the taxpayers would have their money to spend on what they really want, which would also maintain the

It's not an either/or kind of thing, though. Isn't it worth paying for the press release just to hope to get the story picked up various places? Aren't there lots of web sites that will basically just reprint press releases as their sourc

I've seen and heard about this a lot in US gaming companies too. The culture is something like "we're so passionate about games that we have to do super-crunch time to get things finished by the deadline." But I think the reality is that

I don't think there's any evidence that 99% will starve. Certainly not in this country. Our problem is obesity. This chart on Wikipedia is showing that though in income inequality is increasing, all quintiles are also increasing (inflati

Could we be trending towards a future where 99% of people are unemployed, but the 1% that is employed are so productive that there is plenty for everyone? I guess that's basically the same as saying that robots will do everything.

I suspect the streams are optimized for people whose "friends" are actually their friends. My friends list contains 30 of my real friends that I care about, so these notifications you mention aren't actually Spam to me. The problem is that

I've thought about this a lot, since I have a subscription based game with about 1200 active subs, yet nearly all newer games coming out seem to be in the item-mall / freemium category. When I ask my players what they think, the most common
