Hmm, "industry standard pricing"? Seems to me that $3 - $4 is maybe a little high? You can get recent movies from Redbox for $1 and get DVD quality and watch on your TV without jumping through any hoops, or for the price of 2-3 of the You

Also a limit on how much Karma you can get from one article submission. A lot of times it feels like luck when someone submits something and gets hundreds of Karma for it because they posted it first.

Sounds like a cool idea. It would be interesting to see the rules you're using in addition to the pictures of the dungeons.

We were getting Spam bots on our forum which uses the same registration info as our game. We used Captcha for a bit, but also noticed a big decrease in conversion rate, so then we tweaked the forum software a bit to require that you have g

I think it's interesting that he mentions that monitor + keyboard is better than a tablet because it separates out the input from the output areas and the "hands don't get in the way". But if you take the total surface of the keyboard plus

Seems to me they should let people click their buzzers as soon as they want to, and then just take whoever clicked first. Having to wait for the question to finish being asked seems like it makes it a lot more random rather than skill-base

I'm not sure what exactly this is, but I've been behind people a few times where they are using some kind of elaborate coupons that the cashier has to double check and compare to the items and it takes literally 5+ minutes to go through it

Just curious, how have you marketed it so far? I see 75 people online right now, how many total players in month do you have? Monetization is free to play with an item mall?

I reject the premise of the entire article that "The hole is too big to plug with cost cutting or economic growth alone." The hole was created by increasing spending, it can be closed by reducing spending.

"Unfair" by what standard? Why is it unfair to tax two different people the same amount on the same purchases?

I don't agree. In order to game, there has to be different rules to take advantage of. The fewer and simpler the rules, the less you can manipulate it. Take sales taxes, for example. You can't really game them. You can evade them, but

Seems like if we just had a large sales tax, rather than income taxes, none of these things would be so complicated, and we'd save so much money on the cost of compliance.

Wow, sounds like I've been doing it all wrong for four years. Pretty much just thrown up some adwords and worked on my game and never really thought about SEO at all since it all seemed a little bit sleazy.

Thanks for the article. I think it will be helpful. Can I ask, either OP or anyone else, what sort of percent of your traffic comes from SEO? I've seen it stated on the web that 70%-80% of traffic comes from searches, but for me, it's mor

I wonder about this, too. My guess is that they are afraid people would make fake accounts and game the system, though people are gaming the system with link farms anyway, so... I think another comment that I saw on a different article ha

If the game doesn't optimize down the total data it sends, then it's constantly filling the buffers, so there's no waiting for buffers to fill which can reduce ping times.

Don't know if I'm awesome at content network, but about 95% of my adwords clicks are coming from the content network and not from actual search. I get people via Adwords at less than 20 cents a click. According to Facebook, the minimum bid

If I have a goldmine, it's been eluding me. I'm not that great at marketing and seem to be able to only get so many people in with adwords. People pay $10/mo, so a new user is worth something like $200 and I'm currently bringing them in v

Really interesting for me to read this analysis. For my online game, conversion of people who visit the landing page is about 0.5%, but once they're paying, churn is in the 3%-5% range per month, which is around 25 months retention on aver

But people don't want to know you're A/B testing on them with prices. Didn't Amazon get in trouble over that and have to back peddle? Seems like you have to A/B test over time and not offer different prices simultaneously or else you risk

Are those benefits that you wouldn't get in an open office? Personally, I prefer the open office, with 2-4 people in a room together, and feel like cubicles are the worst of both worlds. With the cubicle, it's like you're cut off from eve

If anyone isn't aware of Microsoft's BizSpark program, you should definitely check it out. Basically all of MS's software free for 2 years for startups. This has helped my start up a lot, and makes good sense for them, I think.

A simple color change or font change on the browser tab would do it, though I'm not sure if that's technically possible. Maybe another idea could be a popup when it's done where you can choose how long you want your break?
