Yes, it's a lighter (very minimalist) version of lisp, as opposed to common lisp. Scheme seemed like more of a fun academic exercise. If I wanted to actually do more complex work I'd probably look to common lisp instead of Scheme.

As someone who works under the title Software Engineer, I take it with a giant grain of salt until we're suddenly all taking the P.E. exam and getting our rings. Titles have the same problem all around the industry, people can call themselv

Man, contests like this seem like a bad idea for everyone involved. Solicit bids, take 2 million dollars and get a prototype/demonstration of capability from your top 4-8 options. Review the submitted work and communication each contractor

Thanks for a Joel article I hadn't read before. Two of my favorite class projects fell heavily into what he mentioned, implementing FAT12 in C for the OS course, and implementing a scheme interpreter in scheme for the programing language co

What do you define as an apprenticeship program? We bring in 3-6 development interns each summer, for a company size of about 80 developers.

I currently work for a polyglot shop so I guess I can chime in. We employ about ~90 engineers now and have been in business for around 25 years now, so I consider that successful. The discussion of focusing our scope and becoming more of a

How is the UI just calling to_lower on the password while passing it to your encryption difficult to understand? No case sensitivity has nothing to do with no hashes. Period. Also the value versus risk ratio for Diablo 3 accounts is probabl

Again I'm not seeing how a to_lower on a string in any way implies plain text storage. There's no indicator at all frankly. It was a 2 minute decision by whoever implemented the user input and has negligible impact on password entropy.

Honestly this is the same argument that has been swirling around Diablo 3 recently regarding their decision to use case insensitive passwords. The importance of case sensitivity is dramatically overblown. An appropriately long password is s
