I think the design has a few too many un-necessary flourishes, and it probably won't age very well. It definitely grabs your attention, but in a few years when electric cars are less rare I bet it will look kind of gimmicky.

it's gif dithering. The source is probably a video file and whatever graphics package they exported the gif from couldn't generate the exact shade from the given palette.

the em1 is probably more comparable to the gx7, but now that the A7ii is out the original A7 is a lot more affordable. I do miss the eshutter though.

yep, that came in really handy. Timelapse + eshutter works great together, you can get thousands of captures on a single battery.

I didn't use the vintage lenses all that much, autofocus and zoom is just much more convenient. Also on the web 4k is pretty much the max viewable resolution. Camera lenses are designed for the sensor resolution which is typically 2-4x

the templating system is basically just a sed regex. 500 files should be fine though, so my guess is that the imagemagick error was parsed as input to the template, and when the script tried to insert that message into the template it overf

you can actually adjust the compression settings in the script. I just have mine on the high end out of personal preference. On mobile it should load the mobile-size version, which is much smaller than what you see on the desktop.

I was using a panasonic GX7 with the kit lens and 20mm 1.7 prime, and a few random vintage lenses. I'm glad you enjoyed it :]

I'd actually agree that most static sites shouldn't require js. For image galleries though it really needs the lazy loading to save bandwidth imo. Also it's "sort of" responsive, it just doesn't handle window r

I should probably add a redraw on window resize. Right now it does that polygon stuff once on page load. So if you resize the window and reload the page it should fit everything correctly again.

so this is just a bit of glue code for imagemagick/ffmpeg that I use to generate my blog. Last time I was on HN there was some interest in what I was using for the backend, so I cleaned up the code a bit and put it on github

if you write html files individually, you'll have to update the navigation of each file when you add a new page. Same issue with categories, tags etc. SSGs just make it a bit easier to manage that stuff, and provide a framework to add

The community on reddit has changed a lot from even just a few years ago. I'm seeing a lot more trolling and overt racism in the fringe subreddits (/r/WTF /r/worldnews etc) bleed into /r/all.

I would add that this depends on your time horizon. If you did this in 2008 for example, it would have been a couple of years until you're above water again. There is always an aspect of market timing, even with ETFs. Looking at the ma

I don't think so, for one it's a major downgrade in terms of power. I thought the 12" macbook would be the entry level notebook, and there would be something in the macbook air form factor right above it.

Personally all I really want is a macbook air with retina. I feel like apple has really been resting on its laurels the last few years. During the Jobsian era they'd come up with a new, category-defining product every few years. Now al

I think it's pretty good. The grid is rather irregular so it looks a bit disjointed, but I think that's the intended effect. Reminds me of a magazine layout.

I think the theory is that because inactivity is bad for you (whether sitting or standing), a small amount of constant motion mitigates the effects of working on the computer for hours on end (which exercise does not make up for). Enforced,
