Most of the compromises in the design comes from accommodating video. I originally preloaded almost everything, but found that even two videos in the DOM bogs down the browser and makes scrolling laggy. Anyways, I'm still working on i

the backend is just a bash script I wrote (github above) that compiles to a static site. It really needs a lot more work before I'd want to release it though.

I've always had problems with presenting in front of a crowd (it's pretty much my #1 fear) and I find the best way to improve is to practice. Presentation is really a form of performance art. It's easy to go down a checklist

real estate speculation can be quite lucrative, but it's all about location. Following that advice in Vancouver for example would have been a great financial move - at least in retrospect.

There's always the "get rich slowly" approach: put a large portion of your income in low-risk investments. This is slow but once you hit a critical mass in capital more interesting opportunities become available. Eg. you coul

It feels like natural languages would evolve shortcuts based on the cultural context in which they arise. I would think that a language based on predicate logic would be less efficient at communicating oft-expressed things, like a Huffman c

I think it's probably easier to learn the phonetics of Chinese than reading/writing at first and bootstrap from there. Most of the written information in Latin languages are contained in the first and last characters of each word,

I think the "fail early" advice is applicable here. I left my (quite rewarding) job of 3 years to travel and it was a very difficult decision. In retrospect I should have left much earlier, but instead I waited until I owned sever

If this was real life I'd take the bike too. I mean, something like that actually happening would seem pretty suspicious. I'd think it was a candid camera thing or a pretext to lure me somewhere to rob me.

The problem with torrents are at the ends - initial seeding and lack of seeders as traffic declines. Both cases benefit from a static web seed. I ran a site a couple of years ago that did this very thing, but it was quickly overwhelmed with
