I may have misinterpreted what you meant by vocational, but no it's not. In my CS program we had maybe 3 programming classes. I learned pretty much all my programming on the job, but my CS program taught me to think about problems diff

He's not really "guessing" the card type, there's a pretty standard algorithm called the Luhn Algorithm that all credit card companies use when issuing their cards. The algorithm is public domain and all it does is tell

Your average user is going to know how to do that or even want to do that. If they have to jump through a ton of hoops they just won't use it and be worse off.

I totally agree with Monument Valley. One of the most beautiful and unique games I've played in a long time, it's also a great example that you don't need to push a lot of pixels if you have good artists.

I'd have to agree. If you look at Tesla's revenue and compare it to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Largest_automotive_companies_by... You'll see that even the smallest on that list(BMW) has more than

Having a minimal idea of how these work, how similar is this to antlr? "It is also a build tool to compile the grammars into parsers" this line specifically caught my attention.

This was my initial reaction after coming from Java, generators, list comprehensions, insanely easy iteration, Python makes a lot of things extremely easy that would take 10+ lines in another language.

Most game design companies use Perforce specifically for this reason, they have massive asset files that also need to be version controlled and Perforce usually does this better than other choices such as git/hg/svn. Sadly Perforc

This is something I'd agree on, Visual Studio is amazing, but not good enough for me to switch to windows over. IMO all of the stuff jetbrains makes is almost as good as VS anyway.

I don't know a single person that uses windows for development other than people writing windows specific(.net) software, judging by the overall vibe on HN and /r/programming I'd assume this is a general trend.

I'd have to agree, Go is suited to more intermediate level students and Scratch for extreme beginners and younger children, but Ruby? Ruby is like a harder to read, slower, less used python. Once rails falls(and it is falling) ruby wil

This is extremely useful for people with CS backgrounds who want to get into CS. My first dive into VHDL was disasterous, I feel like it would have went much better if I had used something like this with a familiar syntax.
