Many reasons. For example, using negative voltage will reduce DC component in the wires, that will improve reliability over long lines, as now all you need is to sense the polarity of the signal, not the level. You'd also need high pow

Yes, but then you have to use a lot more complex electronics and production tolerances, as now you'd need to either distribute voltage reference for intermediate level all over the board, which essentially makes it exactly same system

Austin is way bigger than its small hip core. Most if it is absolute sprawling suburbia. Not any more walkable than Dallas or SA.

According to Intel document https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/cauldron2014?action=AttachFile&do=g... , AVX-512 should suppress faults during masked access or otherwise it is not AVX-512.

I wonder if it ever happens IRL, as this would severely restrict the usefulness. EDIT: does not seem to be applicable to AVX-512, only to AVX 1. According to this PDF by intel, AVX-512 suppresses faults for masked access. https://

What they did, is actually even worse: they briefly introduced in Alder Lake AVX-512 FP16 = excellent turbo fast instructions for AI, to immediately drop it.

FreeBSD added AVX512 dispatch into it C library AFAIK.

gcc still pruduces a tiny bit faster binaries in most cases, like ~10-20%.

Nah. Does not sound like that at all. 56k has that peculiar "ding" in the handshake, which makes very different from v34 handhake.

Yep. vaapi was crashing on several builds in a row on a popos machine, till it magically stopped doing that 2 weeks ago. ESR though, worked just fine.

Have you actually read the article? They want to make the default behaviour to deviate from _all_ known standards.

AVX2 actually, not AVX. They have check in the code, so it won't use it unless the CPU supports it.BTW the latest CPU w/o AVX2 are not that old, I think 11th gen celerons do not have it.

Central Asian is a good balance between Eastern European directness and rudeness, and Asian politeness. It is about as polite as English culture but direct when necessary (perhaps due to long Russian influence).

I used FreeBSD till early 2000's, when Linux had become a better choice. I've installed Chromium on FreeBSD 12 and it was impossible to enable to antialised fonts, no matter what I had tried. Generally, it is worse as a desktop sy

The most interesting thing though, is that the Scandinavian Countries (the leftiest in Europe) have the toughest regulations about abortions - the cut-off term AFAIR is only 12 weeks vs 24 in USA.

NYT is not a left wing outlet. Left-wing mass media, produced by a large capitalist conglomerate, if you think carefully is an oxymoron.

The situation is actually quite a bit more subtle. The most "lawful" periods in the Soviet Union were during the Khrushchev and Andropov times. Brezhnev's period (esp. th last days of it) was a a complete mess, when the Sovie
