So much fun putting this map next to a modern one and looking at where I'm from in Croatia. West of Jajce in Bosnia there's a ring of roads that hasn't changed for 2000 years. I wonder if there's a missing roman settleme

How do you get over your fear of anything really? Build up your confidence. If you know who you are, what you're capable of, you won't let other people's opinions hurt you. It comes with age and experience. I don't mean

Ignorance is bliss. I really wish I didn't know all the things that I know. I wish I didn't remember all the things I remember. You choose to program yourself with certain input too, and later in my life I have attempted to select

That is highly personal. Some people are lonely and use the internet as a way of reaching out to other humans. And in those cases, HN comments can become your social media fix. But if you just use it for news, keeping up, reading discussion

This is my theory as well. NC has grown gradually in silos almost, every piece of it is some plugin they've imported from contributions at some point. For example the reason there's no cohesiveness with a common websocket bus for

I think the more striking question is, does that mean 77% of pornhub viewers are underage? Obviously not, a lot of them just don't want to identify themselves. But having worked in IT for 25 years and knowing how free some people are t

It's not a mirror, it's a proxy. If someone encroaches on their free speach and shuts down their hosting account that "mirror" will not save them. Just saying, this is an important distinction to me and I've been ho

Passenger trains used to be ferried across the baltic sea when I was a kid, in fact they still ferry cargo trains over to Poland. I think it's more about the state of the infrastructure, and the scope of the railway carrier, at least i

Yeah I know, that's what they do literally everywhere else in the world. You take the train to a place, and then you book a ferry, and then you take another train. Only these italians had the genius idea to keep going with the train.

True enough. I'm content as long as I don't hear the news anywhere. Recently had my dad over and he can't go 5 minutes without the news on in the background. Really hard to be content then.

In my circle, piracy is making a comeback. We're tired of having to hunt down streaming services, and be extorted for hundreds of euro a month, just to see ads for their own programs. Streaming was fun for a while, but as always these

That's excellent. The info a bit buried, and the lack of it front and center probably scares away a lot of clients. Proxmox needs to better their reputation right now if they're going to be counted as a contender, and burying the

I should have been more clear then, definitely 24/7 SLA is what Proxmox needs to break into the enterprise sector I have experience with. It's kind of frustrating because it's such a tiny detail that could make them a real co

This is a hot topic among some of my nerdier SME friends, and our conclusion is that the major players are HPE and Nutanix. At least from our perspective over here in Sweden. HPE did a big brain move to support multiple hypervisor backends

I like the idea, but obviously it's a bit verbose, you must be aware. But I enjoy the idea so much that I'd like to see a useful version of it. When you think about it, most programming languages already read in your head like lan

I recognize this from my bare-metal homelab setup. But at work we used VMs for Talos nodes so this was not an issue. And if I had to deploy it on bare-metal at work I'd most likely use PXE booting instead of USB.
