Same here, I applied for a job where a friend already worked and he said he would be highly surprised if I didn't get the job. They didn't even call me to the interview. After the ad expired I just got an automated message that th

There has to be a personality test to see if someone is short-sighted enough to take 20 million euros in cash without any plan for how to launder it. Right?! Seems like every single IT job is littered with personality tests these days but w

Good old USA of course. There was another body cam footage of an eldery woman who was arrested for merely walking along the road. I don't blame anyone in the story, this is yet another symptom of the US sprawl, car centric culture, and

The mere existence of Steam is astounding to someone who grew up playing nethack and chess on Linux. But the Steam client is really strange. Sometimes it works for months, and suddenly a game won't start, or something doesn't work

I think it would be overwhelming if we really acknowledged how sentient animals are. I'm being completely honest here, I believe pigs and cows are just as intelligent as dogs. They're simply limited by their physical bodies and ou

I bet the people who were left behind were mostly servants and laborers. Because Vesuvio had been rumbling for days, most people with the means to do so had probably already left the city.

I wouldn't say it's mostly BS, it's mostly common sense stuff that distros should have done already. I don't know about the Ubuntu CIS image but I had to go through the whole CIS PDF for a job once, and implement it all

I just heard about this tool but someone else said it simply enumerates defaults already present in most distros. I can tell you one thing that makes real changes to RHEL at least, CIS Benchmark. It hardens your system by tightening up file

I just listened to the Fall of Civlizations podcast about the Nabateans. So I immediately realized why this is interesting, to find a nabatean temple so far away in Naples. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSfFq02pK4s

How much would it hurt if you lost all your family photos in one day? And how much would a solution be worth to you? That's why I have a consumer NAS at home where I backup all my most precious media. Simply because I've worked in

This is where government regulation is immportant. EV manufacturers want to push innovation, and that's cool, but we're talking about vehicles here, things that might be the difference between life and death. So let them play in t

I doubt it. Most school software still sends files over e-mail that you have to save as attachments, or upload your own document files. So they still learn that early, regardless of if they use it later in life.

That's a bad practice. I have better security experience from the infrastructure around IaC than SSH. Because for IaC we used Gitlab, hidden by a Keycloak, or connected to an Azure AD, protected by a MFA VPN. And for provisioning we us

Properly setup IaC, that treats Linux as an appliance instead, could get rid of SSH altogether. I'm only saying this because after 20+ years as a sysadmin I feel like there have been no decent solutions presented. On the other hand, to
