Just wondering, why did you decide to build this around proprietary, managed cloud infrastructure when the core utilities are open source? Doesn't this unnecessarily lock many use cases into AWS?

You're right regarding panniers and bike lock, since I bought them back then... So throw in another 200 $ into the calculation above, but in the grand scheme it's still not that much less cost efficient. No rail pass needed though

Your cost calculation is a little off. I commute to work by bike since around 8 years, payed 800 $ initially for the brand new bike and only needed 3 maintenances in the bike shop for 400 $ total. Plus I bought some extra tires once for aro

It certainly is not a main criteria when hiring people but I always check the GitHub / Gitlab / etc. profile if applicants include it in their resume. Usually it gives a good indication about how the person is organized and how th

BSD definitely makes sense in certain use cases (routers, web, mail, DB servers,...) , but moving everything indicates at some kind of rebellious act or just pure experimentalism. I have no issue with both, since I've personally done t

They have been granted multiple permits, however the final and most important one is still missing - yes. But there is a high likelihood that they will be getting this one as well - at least according to the latest information I could find.

Not sure how the keys are generated (I'm not a backblaze user) but since one apparently has to use their software for backup jobs there might be chance that they also store the keys on their servers for this exact purpose... This would

How does deduplication work on encrypted files though? I thought they advertise their personal backup plan to be fully encrypted - this would mean that backblaze shouldn't be able to access / identify the data...

Yes for some reason I have never considered using startpage as my default search engine and instead went straight back to google. Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try next time I'm at this stage of the cycle again .... :)

Yeah the problem about the bangs is that whenever I force myself to use DDG again I will end up using the !sp bang exclusively after around a week and decide to switch back to Google a while after that, because typing !sp after every search

How do you do that? I'm a huge DDG fan and am 99% degoogled, force myself to use DDG every couple of weeks but always end up back at Google, because from my experience it's just miles better. Don't want to hate on DDG though,

GrapheneOS is great as a daily driver. The only breaking point might be the incompatibility of certain apps that depend on google play services, but this is a highly subjective matter and depends on how far you go in restricting yourself. (

I'm not an advocate for cloud services by all means, but aren't they generally much more efficient in using their resources than traditional on premise solutions due to the sharing of the underlying infrastructure?
