Sometimes I’ll search something benign on Google, DDG, or whatever. And I won’t have disabled safe search. But it will be on moderate by default. And yet, horrifyingly , sometimes I’ll see results that are NSFW. I mean criticize AI all you

Not the same ethically. I’m not arguing that. But it’s the same mechanics. Browsing a dump floating around on the Internet isn’t the same as stealing someone’s personal info. The data is already there. You’re not depriving anyone else of it

This feels like a very dated metaphor. When my older brother introduced me Napster, was I actually rifling through Lars Ulrich’s wallet and shaking out mp3s? In this case, a clone of the wallet has been preserved for all and sundry to perus

This is one of those situations where it becomes abundantly clear whose dedication to abstract ethics overrides their acknowledgment of material reality and respect for others in terms of real-world safety.

Even that is an incredibly vague and ahistorical definition. It’s strange how much ink is spilled over redefining ‘fascism’ in as vague a way as possible (thinking of Eco here, who remains perennially popular among those who tilt at hooked

Any explanation for ignoring parenthetical text? Is this maybe indirectly inherited from RFC 822?

Well that seems to open up a loophole. Send them the password-protected document. Don’t send the password since it wasn’t explicitly requested. Could even use a one-time pad for good measure since it is just a really long password.

This is very nitpicky, but “Nazi” always seems out of place to me in historical discussions. It’s a derisive nickname mainly used by their opponents. It’s convenient, sure, and more recognizable than “national socialist” in popular culture.

What I saw were claims (and screen recordings) of being instabanned, not mass-blocked, for statements like “there are only two genders” which is a pretty basic conservative stance. One of the sources was that End Wokeness account, so not ex

No it wasn’t. The video didn’t make any attempt at believability, and Musk posted it with the text “this is awesome” followed by laughing emojis. The joke could not have been more telegraphed. You may as well complain that SNL is misleading

Honestly, I've thought about signing up for Bluesky on a similar basis, that a lot of the people I want to follow for my hobbies are there. I'm not sure what you mean about the rape threats. Is there a documented increase in such

That's exactly the kind of thing I'm criticizing him for. Musk posted an obviously satirical deepfake of Harris. It was clownish. It was unprofessional. Jack wouldn't have done that. And yet, the response to this from liberal

Every time I've opened the bluesky homepage it's been highly political. Not even in the sense of "here's a topic I feel strongly about". It's just "fuck conservatives" over and over. At the same time,

That was true previously as well. The most substantial difference between Jack and Musk is that the former was better at maintaining a professional demeanor. His biases were no fewer, his tenure at Twitter was markedly more censorious, but

I’m ambidextrous as well, but always was I guess. Most things feel more natural to do with one hand or the other, and I just do that. I never felt like ambidextrous was accurate, so I say weird-handed. The reason I write right-handed is tha

Is this true? I’m not saying it isn’t, but I buy Blu-ray’s pretty regularly and my player is offline but hasn’t had any issues. I mainly buy older films, so maybe I’ve just been lucky in avoiding protection used for new releases.

If people speaking a certain dialect tend not to work in a particular role, an LLM is only being accurate in deprioritizing that occupation when guessing what they might do. It does make it not bias when an LLM is accurately representing re
