Was confused by that as well. Regulation is usually what keeps utilities from really out of band demand-based pricing like this. Maybe they meant deregulation?

That's painful, feel bad for folks having to deal with that. This is why regulated utilities are important. A bit concerned about this website though. Appears to be a despair-themed blog focused on convincing people we're doomed i

I switched in New England when my freon system hit end of life. I wouldn’t recommend doing it beforehand, but as a replacement it’s been incredible. All the ductwork and infrastructure largely remained the same. Pulled out the furnace, evap

Anecdotes are absolutely a contribution. Regardless, the reason is exactly what I mentioned, it’s esoteric, specific, and not backed by a community of knowledge.

My employer (who I don’t speak for) used this for a long time. Im not normally particularly opinionated about tech choice, but I can very strongly say do not use jsonnet unless you enjoy adding an esoteric unsupported language to your job c

Would you say the commonly-used random level generation algorithm in gamedev, Wave Function Collapse, implies it’s using quantum mechanics? Most people would disagree with you, I suspect.

Read the article. You get banned again if you make a new account. They likely have some complex digital fingerprinting that lets them re-id you. Maybe if you used entirely new hardware etc you might be able to pull it off, but the average

On average, yes. However, this is a dishonest comparison imo. Skill-based matchmaking aims to find a “good” matchup for you by putting you up against an opponent of a similar skill level. Over time you land at 50% due to this, but if you im

Competition at the low level is going to be rough. However, it's pretty hyperbolic to say experienced people are going to be dropped under 100k. Are the days of 750k TC due to stock appreciation over? Prolly. Do engineering staff tend

Definitely seems like that, outside of the crypto space. The industry still is treating 10+ YoE engineers like rare finds. I do expect competition for entry-level is going to be fiercer than ever, though.

It's really going to depend on your experience. Low years of experience or a poor resume/CV? Yeah, I bet it's a bit harder than usual. 10+ years or a great resume/CV? You're still getting flooded, although Amazon an

These are averages. SF/BOS/SEA/NYC/etc all have higher salaries. It also is a bit vague as to what a "tech worker" is, and these articles tend to include all of IT in that.

I think that's just pedantic, to be honest. The people behind those companies and those who work there are certainly making a ton of cash. Even if the companies go bankrupt, everyone involved (except for the VCs) will have been enriche

The MBTA is also just beyond ridiculous. I work (in the Seaport) approximately 3.9 miles from my residence (Somerville). I can walk home faster than the T will take me there, and Uber/Lyft will also get me there ~4x faster than the T.
