Pretty much every freedom you give to people will cause more deaths, and that was true before COVID-19. You could make the same argument you are making now to justify requiring everyone to be tracked during a regular flu season - flu deaths

I think it is pretty dangerous to tell the entire population that their choices are either to install an app which tracks their movement, or essentially be under house arrest. Even outside of the privacy issues, some people just don't

I could imagine a situation where some private events or businesses require you to have a contact tracing app installed in order to go inside. Not sure if that would neccesarily be a good thing (we certainly wouldn't want essential bus

The real gains come not from decreasing the distance travelled (sometimes the racing line does the opposite), they come from limiting the radius of the turn so you can carry more speed through. At least thats what I've learned from pla

That R0 assumes we are taking essentially no measures to stop the virus though, right? I don't no much about it but it seems like the R0 would drop significantly if we keep doing social distancing, expand testing, make people wear mask

It would be good to get a comparison of a brightened version of the sample image compared with the CNN version. Right now the sample image just looks black, but if you scale up the brightness you get an image that looks more like the higher

Pretty much all of my University friends got into team matching at Google for an internship position (myself included). All of them would have taken the job, and none of them were able to because the process was too long. It's pretty a

Fair enough, it was just an offhand comment I should have run the numbers. It looks like if you are under 50 and have COVID, you are ~3x more likely to die of COVID then to die of a car crash in that same year. So that's probably the b

If you are elderly than you should definitely fear death. But yes if you are under 50 it's more likely you will be killed driving to the hospital than by the virus.

Nice, I always wanted to make something like this for my school notes but never got around to it. One thing that could be useful is if it would let you write longer paragraphs of text, which could be expanded on-demand. Ex. # Fruits

Under what laws would it be illegal? I think it is completely reasonable for a company to have access to all data on company-provided accounts, so long as the employees aren't mislead into thinking it is private.

The market has crashed like 25%, so yes it is priced in to some extent. Also, small businesses aren't traded on the stock market, so I think it makes sense that the market wouldn't be affected by this. In the long run, small busin

I think most day-to-day problems are easily solved by just getting a credit card, there are lots of no-fee cards that pretty much anyone can get. They work everywhere, and have fraud protection (edit: In North America at least). For me, the

My understanding is that, as you said, the purpose of the mask is to stop droplets from coughs and sneezes from getting to other people and surfaces. However if others cough on you when you are wearing a mask, the rest of your face is still

That's true though, isn't it? A mask will not prevent you from getting the virus, since covering your own mouth from others coughing doesn't really help you. If you are sick though, it protects others.

That's kind of a false equivalency. The purpose of the government is to step in when the market fails, so of course it is going to do things that support businesses and individuals which would normally have failed. However that is not

Job losses are expected and are priced in (which is why it crashed a couple weeks ago). The job losses were less than some expected so the market went up.
