Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD all (usually) run on Intel processors, so in theory it should be possible to write a program that runs on all three. However, despite ultimately using the same instruction sets, the four OSes use different for

And even in JS and PHP (and Lua) where arrays and hash tables are technically the same data structure, a hash table used as an array isn't actually indexed on elements, just numbers, so you don't get O(1) search.

I'd imagine not. Assuming the JVM's semantics aren't too different from those of the Java language, you always know at compile time how many arguments a function takes[1], so this optimization wouldn't be relevant. [1]:

Headline is misleading - the article is about getting messages off a (booted and previously unlocked) device, not in transit (as "intercept" would imply). Still bad, obviously -- I'm guessing this is an iOS zero day -- but no

IIRC TransferWise holds all your money in escrow (as opposed to investing it or w/e), so they don't need to guarantee it. I'm not sure off hand if that's just what they claim, or if they actually make a legal promise to

FWIW, although this isn't on by default, Chrome can be configured to encrypt all sync data, either with your Google password (which Google hopefully doesn't store) or a separate, offline, password.

At least with Broadcom, you definitely need firmware. As I understand it, the chips don't have any data storage of their own, so they need to provide the firmware to the chip on each boot.

There's arguably a big difference between non-free firmware (which is relatively isolated, and doesn't even run on the same CPU as the OS) and the user-facing stuff GP is talking about in Ubuntu.

As I understand it, it's a single trusted binary (Google's Widevine), not arbitrary binaries from sites, so I doubt it's a huge security liability. Not to discount all the other problems with DRM on the web, of course.

The F# compiler seems to be written in F#. Therefore, you need to already have an F# compiler to build it. That GitHub repo mentions that "You will also need the latest .NET 5 SDK", which looks like it includes F#. (Presumably, wh

If you're using Pi 3 and 4s, then there is an official aarch64 package cache. But yeah, older Pis (and the 0) are a PITA. Also, cross-compiling almost works now - I have a Pi 4 cross-compiling NixOS to armv6l for a Pi 0. But I'm u
