musl is a Linux libc, so you can't use in on any other OS (because it wouldn't know how to send syscalls to the kernel). macOS handles libc a little differently from Linux; whereas the Linux kernel publishes its syscall API, and a

There are three, Webkit, Blink, and Gecko. Blink is a Webkit derivative but they've been developed separately for years now.

My understanding, though I'm not sure, is that a "traditional" jailbreak (installing Cydia and such) allows all apps to read/write from the full file system.

At least for the actual audio, I understand that podcasters get grumpy when people cache that server-side, because they depend on server logs to get viewership numbers for advertisers, so if a popular client downloads the audio once and dis

IIRC, YouTube actually does apply extra DRM to some videos (ones "owned" by the RIAA, maybe others?)

It should be very possible to build something that runs on any version of OS X/macOS, so about 20 years.

IIRC, Apple said something about Apple Silicon not "supporting" other OSes, but it was ambiguous as to whether "support" meant "it won't work" or "we don't help you do it".

IIRC, Stripe used to have a "subscriptions" API at no extra cost. A few years ago, when they launched Billing (with the 0.5% fee), they moved everyone over to that but grandfathered in the old pricing. Now they're making ever

I wonder how hard it would be to build a proxy of sorts that sat in front of WorldWideWeb and let it speak HTTPS and HTTP/1.1.

@dang Can we change the title to include "NSA"? It's silly that the headline doesn't say which spy agency.

I thought EdgeHTML was just Trident with some legacy code ripped out. Edit: admittedly, "just" is probably underselling it a bit, but it's still a far cry from a completely new engine.

It's worth nothing that Apple Music was a descendant of Beats Music, which had an Android app. Not sure if that's the reason.

This is still the case. There are some alternate package managers (pnpm, yarn) that handle this better, but they both break some tooling. In practice, I've found that it's not too big an issue—most people have plenty of disk space

This isn't persistent, right? At least on iPhones, checkra1n needs to run every boot to keep the device jailbroken. So if you saw the machine boot with nothing plugged in, you can trust it.

That’s why I said “as long as it happened relatively recently.” Of course, the commits in question should exist locally on someone ’s machine, so we shouldn’t need to worry about what the remote does.
