I don’t view this as us having an argument. “ The first is related to the third is related to the second is related to the first isn't an argument.” Do you think this is a generous interpretation of the ideas I put forward? “ Why not j

Perhaps you could explain why animals being sentient creatures only counts as emotional justification? It’s a profound fact that human beings evolved from non-human animals. It would be very strange to me if none of them are sentient. I bel

I think there’s a few problems with this point. It seems to imply that unless animal rights = human rights, then they don’t exist. The second is related to the first, but it commits the perfectionist fallacy. A third point, perhaps related

“ A downward-growing stack is more intuitive. To access items on a downward-growing stack, you use positive offsets; for instance, sp+0x10 could be the second stack-passed argument to a function. For an upward-growing stack, you have to use

I didn’t know sed could do that. It seems that vim’s s(ubstitute) utility also has the same features with a near-identical syntax. https://vim.fandom.com/wiki/Search_and_replace Thanks for sharing!

How do the atrocities in this war pale in comparison to those of the war in Georgia or Crimea? A Reuters article from two days ago says there have already been 2,000 deaths of Ukrainian civilians from the invasion alone.

Your argument is, “This thing may be bad, but what about this other thing that I think is even worse?” It doesn’t address why you don’t find the arguments compelling. Do you think energy impact is completely trivial?

I’m just curious, but what do you think is the difference between “critical thinking” and “common sense”? Ostensibly, they both seem to mean something like effective thinking done outside the boundaries of predefined dogmas. On the other ha

For me it’s just not very interesting. The people I meet who seem to be interested in it seem to be primarily motivated by getting rich. This is an understandable interest, but just not something which sparks my personal curiosity. And sinc

I find that the “fuzzy” visualizations I get just in the course of ordinary thinking become more vivid the closer I am to falling asleep. If I focus on them it becomes like a mixture of being asleep and awake.

I used to have sleep paralysis a lot and during at least one episode I could hear, clear as day, a full orchestra playing in my head as if it was coming from somewhere in the house. And when I broke out of the sleep paralysis there was no s

Naive question here, but how much more resolution can we ever expect to get out of pictures like these? If it gets 100 times better will we be able see what the planets look like?

I’ve not shared my opinion on the existence of free will by the way. I tend to think it does not but I also believe that it is an unknowable question. I also don’t think brain activity studies like those prove that no kind of free will is p
