The thing is, even if you want to hold yourself to a simple React-only app, the moment you want to leverage someone else's work, you are thrown into the shark-infested waters of the React ecosystem. I think React is very cool, and I ha

That sounds like a great idea for the OP. Although any company with some traction won't be so easy to take over.

Definitely, just going through YC rejects there must be at least one that has a great idea :) .

Thanks for the links, they make sense - I've always had trouble with blind "you should unit test" advice, but especially the video explains the reasoning very well :)

Is the altwork a real thing or a satire? (I honestly can't tell). Looks uncomfortable, like a dentist's chair (but maybe is amazing once you get in it).

I have 2, I'm pretty sure plenty of people have me beat :). I've read of people that were accepted on their 2nd or 3rd submission. I even think they have statistics on that. Drew Houston / Dropbox is the most famous example.

That's what they do at the company I work for (I'm at a remote location so I'm 100% remote for them). I think it's the kind of setup that works best, for some kinds of software projects.

I definitely agree that luck plays a part, but I like a phrase I've seen often here about "increasing your luck surface". https://plus.google.com/116160612483689327039/posts/b3FPV13d... Also mention

That's a good tip, maybe for everyone - have an offsite backup (Gmail works, iCloud, whatever), with photos of your valuables, your place, etc.

Unfortunately that's how it works for companies today - they know they can pay less depending on where you live (even within the same country, like SF vs Midwest US).

I live in Uruguay and I don't earn "SF money", a 70k paycheck would be huge here (and in Argentina as well). And to avoid the currency inflation you should of course choose to earn in U.S. dollars, or negotiate to be tied to

That car probably doesn't meet US safety standards (most of the Chinese cars don't). China has cars for 4.000 USD that don't make the American market, many built in the same factory (we have lots of those here in Uruguay).

Buying an existing team probably makes more sense than starting one. And if they tried to hire all 100 they'd probably be exposed to a lawsuit (plus they'd end spending a lot on bonuses and relocations anyways)
