The "lowest bid" thing is actually now starting to change. Government buyers are starting to get trained--and there is an accompanying culture shift--on the idea of best value, which is a combination of price, timeliness, ability

Heh, that's a really interesting point. If I can go into Google and click a box to completely expunge my google history, why can't I do the same with a credit-reporting agency? I get that the thinking is, well, you could just expu

I know the point you're trying to make, and I'd say more to that point: we already recognize that you can't sign a contract that strips you of some basic human rights. You can't sign a contract that enslaves you, etc.

Frankly speaking, if we're going to be tracked (and we are, lots and lots), I want the government as involved as possible, whether through strict regulations or through being the central repository for that information. Maybe do it sta

You may have no plans to ever invite the public into a commercially-zoned facility, and in that case, making it wheelchair-accessible might make no sense. But if you suddenly had to up and move, and sell the space, well, it's still zon

Unions don't have to pay based on seniority. They are democratically organized, and as such, are structured to reflect the will of their members. Don't want seniority-based pay? Don't set up your union contract that way.

A union is also a democratically-run organization, so if you disagree with it, you have some recourse. A workplace is not democratically run, so if you disagree with it, you are also screwed, only this time you have no recourse.

Over 10 years ago, I had my gallbladder taken out. I spent two nights in the hospital (one in the ER, where they diagnosed it, and one more after they took it out). I was uninsured at the time, and at the end was given a bill for $18,000.
