While you should never treat anything in the literature as having "a guarantee of correct results", it should be a careful first check.

I have had reviewers and editors dig throughly into work, including code, and it has never been met with anything other than appreciation. I've sent reviews in detailing what further test or figure might be needed to make a point more

There's a lot of research into ways to treat C. difficile. Some of it is genuinely antimicrobial stewardship - keeping people off proton pump inhibitors and certain classes of antibiotics. Fecal transplant is also getting both more via

This helps, but doesn't solve the problem entirely. We have some data showing cattle with antibiotic resistant E. coli to antibiotics that are not administered to livestock, because they're carried on the same plasmids as other

What makes you think they aren't? I can name four or five labs on my floor that are currently working on various aspects of antimicrobial resistance, all of which are government funded.

I've come to truly hate remote scientific conferences. There are a lot of things to commend them in theory, but between day-to-day distractions, the inability to really do the "I'm sorry, I'll be in $CITY" rather th

Similarly, I read the one about dog parks, and if you approach it with the good faith notion that it wasn't just fabricated whole cloth, it reads like an okay-ish Master's level paper being submitted to an okay-ish journal. And fe

I don't think I was being particularly hostile, but honestly? Because I'm tired of seeing another round of programs meant to help students succeed and remain in college, having to sort through lists of journals that are going to b

Publication fees are like, #982 on the list of things driving tuition. You want to solve the student loan crisis, the first place I'd look is the evaporation of state funding for higher education from the 2008 crisis that was never res

One of the biggest risk factors for a C. difficile infection is being treated with fluoroquinolones (ciprofloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin), which are often used in outpatient settings.

Ironically, in my field I'd argue this isn't necessarily true - so long as the ML PhD sees value in that field. Part of this is because public health as an undergraduate discipline is extremely new, so the field is used to havin
