100%. You won't even need any extra hardware to accomplish that. However, I would encourage anyone going this route to think closely about the incentive structures behind the product they're building, and validate them with real e

I think there was a previous discussion on this article a couple of days ago at https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22707365 The link there is non-paywalled.

It's approximately the same technique. Outdoor 3D reconstruction is actually easier, because outdoors you have highly varied and detailed scenes, which enables dense feature matching and accurate dense depth map calculations. Also, yo

This is functionally a coordinate system problem. Thankfully, it's pretty easy here. Just wait until we start getting more models for 3D data. I worked with 3D data for the longest time, and it was incredibly painful — different lib

We're experimenting with the value proposition of a DIY, smartphone-based approach, independently of the 3D representation. What you're seeing is us taking the (temporary) approach that's allowed us to iterate a lot faster o

The incentives of realtors are not aligned with those of the buyer, which manifests in the cognitive dissonance you've just experienced. On a different note — if possible, I'd love to chat about your experience with the UI. Do yo

That's us. https://sendreality.com/318-main-st-a3d/ The biggest challenge about 3D mapping like this isn't about the tech itself, but about actually making it useful for end users. These demos are cool, but

If someone signs an agreement to this effect, what possible job could they take after leaving Amazon that wouldn’t potentially run afoul of this clause? I’d have said “writing a newsletter making fun of AWS,” but—lo and beh

OpenSFM is quite out of date, so it's quite inefficient and rather inaccurate (e.g. exhaustive matching is O(n^2), and there are a lot of smarter ways that are closer to O(n)) Also, one of the main steps of mesh reconstruction is depth

How do you know that 6D AI uses deep learning to predict depth maps? I'm very familiar with their work (they're doing a great job), but the demo video you linked appears to be a photogrammetric-based approach. You can tell becaus

The reason why is because there is no training data of the sort you describe out there. By using MVS-based approaches, they are able to get over the data hurdle by compiling a dataset of your average YouTube video, instead of creating 3D re

I personally do not believe that depth generated purely from deep learning can be used as input to photogrammetry anytime soon. Photogrammetry works exceedingly well because the depth maps that they generate are quite precise and accurate,

Three.js is insane, in a good way. Great abstraction of WebGL, very user friendly, and surprisingly few things that it can't do, as long as you're willing to think up some workarounds if something you're doing is super uniqu

Very cool stuff! Since you're using volumetric integration/fixed voxel size, one trick to get significantly improved visual texturing quality is to low-pass/smooth the mesh right before texturing.

In practice, there are a couple of ways to handle this. In one case, EXIF data gives you a lot of information (sensor size, camera/drone make, etc.) that you can extract very good camera intrinsics from. This information can also be

The GPS data is probably being used as a prior. The GPS metadata is accurate but imprecise, while SFM more precise. GPS is likely used for pose initialization, while SFM is then used to refine the pose.

The ZED camera works by using two high-resolution RGB camera, finding matching points between the two, and using that to calculate depth. Because they are using high-resolution RGB cameras, they can generate very high resolution depth maps
