I am a backend engineer and recently had to improve my CSS to work on a side project. I highly recommend book "CSS in Depth" by Keith J Grant - it helped me to build a solid foundation.

I think that the media is overusing the term "whistleblower". There are many of wrong things happening at big companies (FB, Google, Amazon) and you are not really a whistleblower by bringing this up. Media labelling those people

Is this the same guy who recently posted about trying to bluff Steve Jobs, getting called out on it and losing a deal? I wonder how many more stories like these he has lol Edit: found the link for those interested https://news.yc

How can a government ensure everyone's safety without sacrificing people's privacy or imposing on their lives? I would like everyone to be and feel safe, but at the same time I wouldn't want a CCTV and a policeman on every co

I feel that wisdom is a very overlooked trait. Especially in the younger generations it is associated with being "boring", which is a shame. I think not that many people care about being smart, and even less care about being wise.

I agree. I see being smart as the ability to learn some things quickly. However, you have to apply this in the right way and that's why other character traits are important - such as wisdom, kindness, patience. If being "smart&quo

On a similar note, I like to keep a work journal at my personal computer that I update every few months with what I've been doing. It helps with the interview preparation, as one of the most common questions is "what did you do at

If many managers are onboard with an idea, one engineer saying "no" doesn't have much weight. Also, if you keep saying "no" to things, you might be perceived as "negative" and it might come up in performan

I don't think human-defined moral value has much to do with consciousness. A sacred object (or animal), might have a high moral value in certain cultures, but it doesn't mean it's highly conscious.

What defines something's "moral value"? What is "suffering"? Is it not just a signal that triggers certain pathways in the brain? Could it not be built/simulated? Is suffering necessary for something to be cons

Part of me doubts that it's a permanent shift. There was a hippie movement in the 60s and 70s in the US, but conservatives are still going strong 50 years later.

I agree that some people might under/over-estimate their abilities. However, I am not sure if drawing is the right way to test it. I can visualise a straight line or a perfect circle, but I wouldn't be able to draw them perfectly.

I thought about something similar in the context of "dangerous" AI. In a hypothetical scenario where super-smart AI got control of the internet and all the devices, would it be able to start controlling people?
