People believe what they want to believe. For some people, any scientists whose words can be twisted to agree with their worldview are the "real scientists", while others are just "bribed scientists" who just write what they are told to write. If there is one dodgy study made against GMO, people who are against GMO will just focus on that one, and will completely ignore 100s of studies which contradict it.
