Why not switch to actual GB like the OS X did. I'm not sure why anybody prefers GiB.

Is there any proof that hard drive manufactures actually switched? It's always just repeated as truth. I remember megabytes being all over the place in the days of floppy disks, 1000 * 1000 or 1000 * 1024 or 1024 * 1024. Hardware engin

Facebook Messenger does it every time you go to the App, it's very annoying. It definitely makes me use it less. I don't think Apps should be aware if they have had permissions denied, functions should just quietly return nothing&

Something I've been wondering about Bitcoin: If Bitcoin is going to be used as a currency, you'll need to be able to get loans, short term like a credit card and long term like a mortgage. But isn't taking a loan in a deflati

I said it 'could be' the next big thing, not it will be. I agree it's a long shot. Web Apps have been very good to developers. Zero piracy, no installation issues, low support costs. Users like them because it's simple t

It's not. Except Windows has 95% of the market and the Mac had 5% of the market. So even though it's easier and cheaper to support a Mac app, the market is so much smaller it's still not really worth it. Compare to mobile whe

I'm more thinking so the average person would have their own server for their family, rather than the people who have servers now. Sure "apt-get install" installs the software, but configuring it to do anything useful is stil

I think it's a general problem with services. I much prefer using desktop software, even when it's discontinued, it still works. I think the next big thing could be bringing App Stores to servers. 1 click install, zero config, etc

If you want to work on files with people (other than supported by google docs) you both need the desktop app installed. Far more people have the Dropbox desktop app installed than Google drive. I find Dropbox websharing far easier, right-cl

Google Drive doesn't work, at least for me. It won't reliably stay connected. There is no reconnect option either, so every time it disconnects you have to exit/restart and then it has to re-index all the files. Sharing is cl

Just after the OS boots, Dropbox needs to index 120 GB of files. Any other program that wants to access the disk takes forever. For Dropbox to finish, for my mail and IDEs to open takes about 10 minutes. Any other program that needs the dis

I switched my Garmin to Australian as well. Now it calls onramps 'sliproads'. Does know what the abbreviation HWY means. A few others as well. Not sure why that's encoded in the accent and not the location.

I just ran the numbers for curiosities sake: The average American spends $20,000 on their credit cards. If credit card fees are 4% and the retailer gives half back, the customer saves: $400 a year. To save $400, the customer: - Gives up acc

Transactions can be reversed. They leave a trail. The punishments are huge. It's not worth the risk. Hacking a bitcoin exchange has no consequences. MtGox has no idea where the money went.

Right now it is pretty much a binary choice - trust and install. Don't trust and don't install. I trust the developer to have implemented the SSH protocol correctly -- I have to trust them that much. But I don't see why I sho

There are lots of 32bit micros with all those peripherals, I think it's just that the embedded industry moves slowly and adopts new products with caution. I think it's only a matter of time before all microcontrollers are ARM and
