Is there an example of this happening? Seems like a stretch. On the other hand there are examples of people in the UK expressing racist sentiments in DMs and being jailed for it.

To say the two are remotely comparable is either insincere or naive. Like I'm not saying the US always acts utterly virtuously, but they aren't running concentration camps and chemically castrating entire ethic groups. They also a

Back in school pdfs would circulate that had a bunch of flash games on them. I have no idea how or who made them, but they let us play dolphin olympics on lab computers with no internet connection.

Is it fundamentally any different from something like toothpaste? Humans have created a technology (mechanised farming) with a side effect we haven't yet evolved to handle (an abundance of tasty calories), so it doesn't seem all t

This is one of the worst comments I've read on HackerNews and engenders the decline in critical thinking that has become so pervasive here in recent years. You find a bunch of ways to frame the authors as the out-group, then cast a tot

Don't get me wrong, I think the arrests in the UK over online speech are abhorrent, but the police commissioner at no point in that interview suggests extradition or makes any mention of US citizens. Just a clickbait title.

What, in your view, are the "very serious long term side effects" of semaglutide/GLP-1 agonists?

What is your null hypothesis here? Would they be better off if Amazon moved their warehouse to another state or country?

But this content is presumably in its training set, no? I'd be interested if you did the same task for a collection of books published more recently than the model's last release.

SNAP eligibility is based on household net income. A father of 2, with an unemployed spouse, and medical bills could be earning vastly more than someone single and debt-free, while still qualifying for SNAP when the latter does not. It'

Lots of circumstances that could mean a fairly paid person is eligible for SNAP. Especially if you are counting part time employees.

Agreed. Food delivery is a luxury that should only be afforded to the wealthy. There are far too many delivery drivers serving low income areas. We must price out those neighbourhoods immediately.

Ticketmaster is a company which is so hated, people ascribe their success to malice and illegal activity rather than any compelling economic arguments. It's unfortunate because their business model is, imo, quite interesting. The first

You may be misunderstanding his point. I think he's pointing out that people who commit serious crimes usually have a prior history of smaller, petty crimes that they were not given meaningful punishment for. The data certainly support

I regularly get Uber/Lyfts from JFK and Newark without hassle. I don't know why I'd want to ride with a regular taxi. Taxis still suffer from all the things that created the impetus for ride sharing platforms: - Lack of price

I'm generally supportive of this type of spending, but it's important to realise opportunity costs and the fact they are both invisible yet very real. Invisible in rich coutnries like the US, I mean. The USSR space raced itself in

Seems completely trivial to comply with this law while not releasing firmware. Is there any precedent for forcing firms to release software? And if so, has it resulted in a third party adopting the support after it?

How do you balance this concern with the level of crime? Wouldn't be more excusable for a Johannesburg PD to be better equipped than Brighton? With that in mind, it doesn't seem right to paint the US with one brush when Chicago&#x

I'm not sure how/if you're inferring that from this incident. The ban was caused by a delivery driver reporting a racist doorbell interaction. It would have been better for Amazon if they reviewed that footage before acting,
