Is it fundamentally any different from something like toothpaste? Humans have created a technology (mechanised farming) with a side effect we haven't yet evolved to handle (an abundance of tasty calories), so it doesn't seem all that strange we would fix it with a technology (inhibiting the desire for said calories).
