I think that would depend on the data type and sizes. A single row in a PG table cannot take up more than page size (8kB). If you have a 100kB TEXT field the row will instead contain a reference to an "overflow" table rather than the data i

I wonder how well the SMART stats would predict that failure -- or whether they were sudden unexplained failures. If you run smartctl -A on your SDD device then for e.g. Intel you can see attribute 0xE9 or 233 -- media wear indicator, start

Does this use SNI ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Name_Indication ) to allow for multiple vhosts on same IP? (since they use a *.showoff.io wildcard certificate). As I understand it, SNI does not work on IE7 on XP (Konqueror apparen

Can anyone comment on omitting Content-Length in the response, versus using chunked encoding? Will chunked encoding simply give you more control over when the browser executes the content, or perhaps be more compatible with any proxies in b

I've seen it used for a long time. The only problem with it is the quadratic time complexity: it's equivalent to ((N0 + N1) + N2) + N3 ... so you copy the same elements over and over again as the sum builtin doesn't know to use anything bu

What's wrong with copying zlib around to every project? Well, have you forgotten the 2002 zlib vulnerability where 100s of copies of zlib source had to be fixed up? I believe there were half a dozen of separate copies of zlib source code in

YMMV but for my Python web app executing mostly OO Python 2.5.x code, I got a 10% performance increase by using jemalloc compared to the malloc in RHEL 5. It's as simply as LD_PRELOAD=/path/to/libjemalloc.so -- memory usage is also better (
