I think Google is trying to go after the premium segment and try to achieve Apple-like margins by focusing on software. If you look at the the phone specs you'll be completely unimpressed with the Pixel phones. Plenty of cheaper phones

OMG this whole situation infuriates me. I've complained about this to Google's security folks, and basically the answer I got there was that they don't believe in password managers as a solution and would rather have FIDO

Its pretty obvious that Waymo wants to make car hardware a commodity, and car companies don't like that and want autonomy to be a commodity. I don't really know where Cruise is at, but it's not crazy to believe that both thin

I think there is a real disconnect between what peer review is and what the public seems to think peer review is. The public seems to think that peer review indicates that something is true, but that's clearly not the case because we h

IMO Overvalued usually implies a comparison to something else. For housing you could compare to: cost of renting, cost of in-fill construction, salaries in the area, cost of alternatives (eg moving, to other neighborhoods or cities). I thin

So, this article says there is no security model that doesn't trust the owner of the device, and there's something to that. But "evil maid" attacks are a pretty routine occurance in China, and having hardware that is res

I don't think there needs to be a conspiracy for vehement denials to make sense. Security is a hugely important reputational good for both Apple & AWS.

Yeah, I'm not entirely clear what counts as a hobby and what doesn't. I went to a comedy show tonight. Does that count as a hobby? I don't think so, but it's also clearly a leisure activity. Does reading count as a hobby

Most self-taught people I have met have come up with their own projects, or at least played with Kaggle, as people are usually advised to do. MOOCs are only a small part of the options people can and do exercise.

I don't think this is an accurate assessment of education in the ML space. There are tonnes of people who have self-taught themselves the material. The issue I see is that employers do not trust non-university credentials, and so there

I liked SF and Oakland when I lived there, but I moved to NYC and don't really want to move back. And that makes me take the comment about whether the tech industry should be in the bay area fairly seriously. I work for a Big Tech co
