Hi! This is the Market Economics Fairy! If people are buying your product faster than you can make it, it means your prices are currently set too low! There's no point in keeping the price low to stimulate demand when you can't yet incre

One counterexample can't outweigh a lot of positive examples, but we don't have verified positive examples of people making the reasoning error the OP claims - we don't have verified positive examples of people secretly thinking what OP cla

Hi. This is Eliezer Yudkowsky. I work at the Machine Intelligence Research Institute on reflective decision theory for eventually building stable self-modifying AIs. I do this because I think it's literally the most important problem in

Oh, they had stock warrants? That explains it. Trading the low-interest debt for stock wouldn't make any sense otherwise.

Yeah, that puzzled me too. The PR couldn't be worth that much, could it? How could the interest possibly be more expensive than the stock dilution? Unless they just don't like having debt outstanding which seems understandable... though w

Really? Success in just one area is plenty to keep me going. It's when you get success in no areas that you're in trouble, or when success in one area is balanced by a disaster elsewhere, etc.

I've totally seen a LISP dialect with probabilistic execution and Bayesian updating built in - it was one of the lecturers at SPARC 2012 - but damned if I can remember the name of the speaker or the LISP dialect. Roughly, using this dialec

Since Bitcoin can be subdivided and is used (rather than held) primarily as a medium of exchange, there's no reason for increased price in dollars to decrease its use as a medium of exchange... let alone a store of value. Unfortunately.

Setting fire to 3% of gross planetary product doesn't seem like it should be the best solution. Current financial wastage is more than this, sure, but who says that Bitcoin fixes all problems and they never come back?
