I agree, and the idea of a sideload-able iOS makes me very uneasy. I like the idea of Apple aligning itself with the user to protect me and, more importantly, my tech-unsavvy friends and family, from scams, data-hoarding apps, and just gene

What? Nobody is arguing that companies should avoid paying employees. How are you reading that? For the overwhelming majority of jobs, you get paid only what's in your contract. If that number is not enough, fine, renegotiate it if you

To quote Don Draper: that’s what the money is for! You already get a pre-negotiated salary and maybe a bonus plan, why is there an expectation of more money that nobody agreed upon?

These very likely aren’t Stripe’s rules, they’re a composite of various regulations and rules imposed by banks and card networks.

I guess this is a problem inherent not just in a single-file go app, but in any deployment where the whole stack is contained within a single process. The post says the process starts up quick enough that the process being temporarily unava

This is just The Register’s style. Sometimes I appreciate the snark, but other times (like this) it’s laid on so thick it’s hard to understand what is actually being reported on.

It would be so cool if this was just a case of someone regularly mistaking your aunt’s car for their own. “Huh, my key’s not working, oh well, I know a trick to get ‘er started”

Not the worst thing in the world. I'm not saying it's necessarily better than a meeting, but at least you have a paper trail and automatic log of decisions made. (A collaborative doc would probably be a better venue for that, of c

Is it so hard to just let someone enjoy something? Apple has a lot of problems right now, but it's still OK to say something positive about them once in a while. We don't need to fight about it and discredit it. Apple names are fu

How do you know which Windows came first: XP, ME, Vista, 98, 10? I mean even when Apple uses sequential, numerical names you can't always answer the question of which came first: the iPhone 8 and iPhone X (10) were announced ~simultane

It's not implausible that many of us who work with Ruby owe our livelihoods to Chris, and his relentless efforts to progress the language and not just keep it relevant, but thriving. He will be missed so much by the community.

I dunno, I’ve never had a problem with counterfeit products on Amazon. I avoid third party sellers though (even if “fulfilled by Amazon”) so that’s probably why. Buying direct from Amazon hasn’t resulted in anything fishy for me yet.

This comment is why I still use Amazon, even though it has indeed become a catalogue where 90% of the listed products are junk. Because that other 10% are legit brands, and when you want the legit brand, it's still very convenient and

I'm fascinated by the pricing implication here. The older you are, and the more imminent your need for it, the cheaper it is!
