Yes, and then your main kernel image is no longer on ZFS and you lose the ability to reliably roll back your root dataset. Everything is a trade off. I reboot my workstation once a week for a kernel upgrade, so an extra 2 seconds of boot ti

It's nice to see more people embracing the capabilities of UEFI and Linux. ZFSBootMenu has been shipping an EFI application (really, a UKI masquerading as one) for almost four years now - https://docs.zfsbootmenu.org/en

It'd be doable, but not with out a whole lot of hacking on it. The internals of ZFSBootMenu are tied very tightly to ZFS. Though at that point you'd largely be reimplementing https://github.com/open-power/peti

It makes the conclusion unsupported. I don't know this area very well, but speaking for myself, I'm happy to ignore your argument from authority and give more weight to the author engaging in good faith.

When asked, by the author, to cite specifics, you're instead claiming something isn't "useful in prod" based on an impression you formed years ago while reading blog posts.

Both of the examples given in the "avoid subshells" section use subshells. There are probably more problems, but I stopped there.

My wife and I had a 'starter house' built in 2009, and paid it off in 2019. We've talked about moving out of the area, or into a house with a different layout / finishes / whatever. I'm not sure that's goi

I originally wrote ZFSBootMenu as a reaction to how awful Grub is. I was hacking on the Grub scripts and hitting all sorts of limitations that were just awful to work around (or not possible at all). I used Grub to chain load early versions

I can't quite see which Thinkcentre's those are, but the M920x can fit a 10GbE PCIe NIC in it and provide it enough power. I have one on my desk with 2x2TB NVMe, 32GB RAM and a 10GbE fiber connection to it.

The last time I looked at Slashdot comments (2021, give or take) they were low-effort trolls, racist/sexist, or just gibberish. Has moderation improved there or is it still a cesspool?
