My wife and I had a 'starter house' built in 2009, and paid it off in 2019. We've talked about moving out of the area, or into a house with a different layout / finishes / whatever. I'm not sure that's going to happen any time soon though - getting a mortgage at the current rates is just too hard to stomach when we had one at 3%, and now have nothing at all.
