Conflict of interest happens if you are, or know you will be, compensated by those you are regulating. If you get hired after the regulations are in place I don’t see the problem.

During uninstall take them to a page where you very simply and sincerely ask them for feedback. Promise that you will read it and respond to it. Don’t require an email on that form though so they can answer anonymously if they want to.

It could work well for B2C cases, but I suspect it will be only marginally better than Facebook for B2B. Still, that’s still a huge market.

This is really interesting. Nice job! Something I’ve always wondered though is whether it’s cause or effect. In other words, does living in high density areas make liberal causes more important to a person, or is a liberal person more dra

I was going to say the same thing. Success takes perseverence.

I suggest not using a pillow, or using the thinnest one you can. I used to have upper back/shoulder pain and went to a chiropractor. He showed me that my “head carriage” was off - I held my head too far forward, which caused neck

I plot my routes in the car based on the total score of a route composed of points for left turn, right turns, lights, etc. Avoiding left turns at a light is a big goal. I know others do this too (notably UPS’s supposed optimization of on

What a great article. Explains why melatonin works for my wife for a short time but then stops working (dosage in store-bought pills is too high and stays in the system too long).

Came here to say this. That last 10% of the polish easily takes 40+% of the effort (or more based on the pareto principle). GUI work in general is a lot of work.

So what happens to the addict (drugs, gambling, whatever) that blows their UBI? Do we let them die in the streets with lack of medical care? Let their children starve? How about the homeless in (any super expensive city that still won’t b

Naive, but honest quesrion: why don’t homeless move to where housing costs less? That’s what I do if I can’t afford something: I find an alternative. It seems to me something else is going on that pulls homeless people into San Francisco.

I always wonder about this attitude. How do you feel about the aggregate energy consumption of all Candy Crush games being played (servers, network, phones, PCs, monitors)? What about all the energy used to grow, harvest, produce, transport

I used to be exactly the same way. 25 years later and I’ve had my fill. Eventually, you’ve seen it all a few times. The packaging changes but processing information and getting it from here to there can only be done in so many ways with

I would postulate that is the definition if immaturity, or at least short-sightedness. Sooner or later people start looking for ways that both can win, in the short term and in the long term. Sometimes that means giving up something you wa

I agree completely with marcus_holmes. If “ritual” is just jargon, it should be changed, because it’s also misleading. I can’t think of another example where a word means something precise, and also means less than nothing in the same con

I seriously wonder if we won’t nuke each other (or destroy the environment, etc) before we’re able to spread in any appreciable way. Technology is definitely a two-edged sword.

This doesn’t make sense. Why is liability tied to payment? If someone 3D prints brakes and they give them away for free, are they liable? This is a tough problem. We want to punish negligence, not destroy lives because of honest mistakes

I have a very hard time believing you’ve developed software that has been released. I’ve always done my very best to release robust and stable software, and I’ve still shipped bugs. Should I be sued out of existence? We don’t need hardwar

I’m not sure. To me the threats you mention seem more cerebral since we have to think about them, but don’t feel them (well, I guess one feels pressure from one’s economic sitation). For example, irreversible global warming is a huge conc

What you say is true, but I suspect it’s more lack of social connection because we spend so much time with screens. In the old days you at least watched TV together but now we can go in our own rooms and watch Netflix by ourselves. I remem

B2B transactions are not nearly as price sensitive as B2C transactions, because the business people aren’t spending their own money (unless you’re selling to an owner). This was a revelation to me when I figured it out.
