I know almost nothing about all the smart home tech, but my son-in-law is a tech fanboi that has smart lights everywhere in his home, and some small Alexas in rooms that they are hooked up to. His lights are all voice controlled so they ne

The problem is distribution. Some folks skew the average a lot.

Yep, and many of us said this years ago when we saw the Boston Scientific robot dogs.

Eradicating poverty could be done today, IF we could change everyone’s mindset. In my opinion that is harder to do than immortality. Heck, we could end war with a much smaller change in mindset and we can’t even do that.

I use CoPilot and agree that 50% is a very good day, and also only for fairly simple code.

Not exactly law texts, but if you’re interested in original texts from that era, from roughly the same people, read the Icelandic Sagas. Really good reading.

That’s a pretty big claim. If they have software that can guarantee a program will never crash it would be revolutionary, and could probably solve the halting problem.

I’m wondering if a bar DTrace or eBPF expression/filter could cause a blue screen. I’ll bet it could be done.

30 years ago I knew a very old Swiss woman who told me they used the ‘letter’ ij (“yotee” if I remember correctly) instead of just a j (j in Swiss/German makes a y sound, like in jawohl). Hoping a Swiss person can fill in the details

I imagine something keeps monitors how many times the lift has gone up and down for maintenance reasons. Maybe a nice model monitors fluid pressure in the hydraulics to watch for leaks. Perhaps a model watches strain, or balance, to preve

Man I wish I could get a job at IBM naming things - what a sweet gig that would be. “Need a name for an operating system? OS/1! Oh, there’s already one of those? OS/2! Database? DB/1! Oh… OK then, DB/2!”
