I'm honestly one of the people absolutely against AirBnB. I'm in New York City. The counter argument here is that AirBnB does not make a place a hotel but what we see all the time is direct comparisons between hotels and AirBnB.

@Shawndumas One thing I prefer on HN over Reddit is the mature and appropriate responses. Please keep the ostracization to a minimum.

I was more interested in the First Round than the actual article. I read the website and was curious how exactly does one get involved in a group like the First Round? Mentorship and being able to ask other founders questions would be a hug

Really can't help much but here's my story. I've gone through the majority of high school and college (I'm a junior next semester) without doing much of my homework. I'll do the occasional essay that's worth 20% of your grade or whatever an

I don't think there has to be a rational argument against AirBnB. I could create a business telling people that I'll tell you how to get rich, charge them $10,000 and then tell them "Work hard and look for opportunity." and you could say th

I have a right to say no to AirBnB. Does my individual opinion matter? Probably not. Does the collective opinion of my neighborhood matter? Yeah it kind of does. We've been saying no to AirBnB for years, this isn't anything new. NYC says ye

When NYC residents tell you we don't want this and some startup founders in California tell you yes you do, that is elitist.

I phrased my point incorrectly. What I mean is when I buy a house or rent an apartment, I want stability. I want to know who's around me and see familiar faces. I don't want the variable of some new short term resident LIVING every other we

I'm a New Yorker here and plain and simple, we don't want AirBnB. This is New York City and the residents of this city have time and time again voiced their displeasure towards AirBnB, so why are people from elsewhere saying this is a bad t

Perhaps sharing tools, yes. Sharing cars, MAYBE. But sharing living spaces and housing, no. Housing is one of the most intimate services out there services out there. I have standards, I have rights, and I want to feel safe and secure where

I am a New Yorker and I win by not having someone here for the short term vs an actual neighbor. This is a hotel no matter which way you try and paint it.

At the end of the day, it's a hotel. I don't want to live next to someone from somewhere else who isn't here to be my neighbor. What about my rights?

This is a win for New Yorkers. The whole sharing economy thing is unsafe, ridiculous, and kind of pathetic.

I met a VC at stanford bootcamp for entrepreneurs. This VC had emails going down pages and pages within minutes of each other each with walls of text. They're pretty darn busy.

Unfortunately the 10% is basically the minimum we do need at this moment. 10% on a $10 transaction is $10. PayPals fees on a $10 purchase are 3.5% plus 35 cents. That's 70 cents. Basically our profit is 30 cents. Our 10% fee is way cheaper

When I look at his Flare template, there's just too much big text. The submit button, the login to flare, register here, you don't have an account, and the site logo. These all look the same size to me and I don't know where to focus my eye
