Their argument: Win8 has lots of places that are touch optimized, therefore they lay focus on a pointer device/keyboard being shipped with it in order to get around those places. The first point can clearly be seen when you actually take a

I'm having a bit of trouble following design advice from a site with such a mishmash of fonts.

I think you bring up some good points of open source projects vs. commercial ones. In open source projects, most of the time when seeing critical feedback by users you see those "it's open source, just change it the way you want" comments.

Yeah but what's the point in making Preview.app sandboxed? It's a damn document viewer.

You have a good point. I also think that one should not completely replace IB, because its core functionality is very good: Design UI that is callable in code without naming the elements explicitly in the designer. What's missing are two fe

Why can't I reply to some comments? That comment about the new sandboxed folder structure made me realize he's right. What's going on with all those symlinks inside the container directory? This just shows to me what a bad idea sandboxing i

OSX, because of its big corporate watchdog, and the separation of the 'GUI' layer and the unix layer, has the cleanest directory structure by far IMO. Most of the times you don't even need a manpage or google to find out how to repair a mis

True. I actually kinda like the Windows directory structure since Vista. If only the application devs would also follow the standard (hence the whole My Documents mess).

That's exactly what I thought: Chip design for Apple based on ARM is probably just not the kind of challenge such a top exec wants to spend too much time on.

Didn't Intel base Core Duo on their Israel branch' Pentium M design? I don't remember too much about the architecture codenames but were they similar to Pentium Pro?

I found the Retina MBP ad to be perfectly executed. Straight up, product centered, beautifully shot, nicely synched with music to give an emotional punch. Better than most of the newer iPhone / iPad ads IMO.

Microsoft is (or at least used to be) pretty smart in how to partner. Reminds me of that Steve Jobs quote along the line of "I wish we were as good at partnering as Microsoft". I'm curious whether their new strategy (basically copying Apple

It isn't? That's strange. Why would they do that, security reasons? About JS performance: Might be important to you as a gamedev, but for the overwhelming majority of today's web apps this shouldn't be an issue anymore. That being said, I w

Try the new safari. I've been a Chrome user for quite some time, since the retine MBP I'm forced to use safari (for retina support). Since ML it has actually become quite pleasant I have to say. I don't see any clear advantages of chrome an

Ive doesn't sign off on Software. When you look at the MBP as an example, the hardware is great, the release software was buggy (most of it fixed with ML though).

I think the naming might have yet another effect: Customers now feel an association to one of the tiers. For a studio customer to buy the 'freelancer' tier might feel unprofessional / dishonoring. I'd like to know how much effect just the n
