Forgive me, but I don't understand how you can pronounce it as one syllable. I would have to pronounce /shmod/ as either /sh-mod/ or /shm-od/, making it two syllables. I'm happy to be corrected, I j

I have no idea how to pronounce this as one syllable, it's always been che-mod to me. Chown is one syllable though, I agree there.

I was a su-dough person until I realise that sudo stands for 'super user do' or 'su do', so I switched to soodoo - it makes a lot more sense that way. f-suck is a new one for me though. I would say F S C K to someone el

Bingo. The day I can put things in cron in WSL and have them run without needing a window open is the day I stop running a Linux VM.

Oh, they make WhatsUpGold? That actually gives me more confidence in them - it's been a simple but reliable monitoring tool that I've seen in enterprise use for many years.

I feel you’re missing the point here. Many power users opt to use the keyboard as the primary way of interfacing with the computer, and any change to that interface is highly disruptive and causes huge losses in workflow efficiency. This is

Android also has global issues with malware infections and crapware, primarily due to people downloading software from third-party app stores. I’m not saying the apple model is how I want things (far from it), but it certainly has been effe

Multiple ergonomics guides give the guidance I mentioned. Here’s a link to a few, but I encourage you to do your own research. At the end of the day, if you’re finding that something helps to reduce long-term fatigue then it’s probably not

Most people also position their monitor too high, to be fair. The top of the monitor should be at or slightly below eye level. If you reach out from your chair with your arm held level, that should be roughly in line with the middle of th

On the flip side, there are many of us who do their best work in the evenings. I find I get more done in a couple of hours after 5 (maybe 5-8) than I do in the rest of the day. I’d much rather start at 10 or 11am and finish late. Enjoy a sl

I would imagine that it’s not a typo. In a car you have a big shell around you to protect against the environment. While walking or cycling you’re far more prone to be injured by the world - a branch could fall on you, a car could hit you,

To be fair, apple hardware also has some catastrophic issues. The ongoing keyboard disasters and overheating/throttling are two that come to mind.

I agree that removing the magnifying glass was a terrible idea, but what's befuddling about selecting text? The biggest loss for me on newer devices is 3D touch, since that's the best way to select text quickly and easily.

This comment is really the perfect summation of the issue. For what it's worth, I'm also a firm believer of "it should be useable with one hand without akwardness". 4.5" would be my perfect size; just slightly smal

Interesting. Here in Australia the red light cameras only trigger upon entering the intersection - if you’re already in the intersection then that’s fine. I wonder what the solution they’ll implement will be?

It depends on the industry and the size of your company. I’ve been in a position where the only choices we were given were upper-right quadrant products - nothing else was on the table. That said, other companies don’t care two hoots about
