I don’t know. I grew up on CRTs and have never missed them one bit. I have to disagree with the idea that CRT images were somehow better overall. A high-DPI LCD or OLED screen with decent color range runs circles around any CRT, IMO. People

100% agreed. Database indexing is no where near premature optimization. Failing to do it is more like going for a run without tying your shoes.

The parent comment said nothing about civilization collapse. It was about extinction of species site to climate change.

This whole article great, but the best part is when he just casually drops that he invented inertial scrolling 20+ years before the iPhone.

Come on. There is a massive difference between an ad that optimistically emphasizes the best aspects of a real product or service and an ad for a fake product or service that will take your money and leave you with essentially nothing.

This is very wrong. The distinction is pretty simple: leaders choose what the goals are, managers direct subordinates to achieve the goals. Both are needed and people can both at the same time.

But that’s exactly how it is used, and them disappearing behind the notch feels like a bug.

I came here to say this. Creative did more to set back audio in video gaming than anyone other company. It boggles my mind that they killed Aureal through unsuccessful but costly-to-defend litigation, bought its assets in bankruptcy, and pr

The "paradox" problem is in the setup. It's easy to mistake it as "a couple has one girl, what is the probability that their next child will be a girl," in which case the answer is 50%.

I bought a computer with an OS. I don't need or want a note taking app from the OS vendor, or a document editing app, or a photo editing app. Their note taking app is just irrelevant to me - I want a computer and an OS from them. For a

Preview is OK and better than Reader. But PDF Expert is excellent in every way, and is a dramatic improvement on both Adobe Acrobat and Preview. It’s so weird that they won’t release a PC version.

This article is a pretty lame rant. I'm no engineer, but I know I need to back up my Mac, just like every other PC. I run Arq and back it up to cloud storage, and I also have a sync program set up to back up my most critical files to s

That was my first thought. Fewer brake particles is great, but I’m guessing it won’t be enough to counter the increased tire wear.

I’ll put 3-4 hours into gaming from around 8:30-12:30 pm after the kids go to bed. It takes the place of most TV, movies, or social media for me. On the weekends it can be a bit more. I also do competitive gaming and during the comp seasons

I have a huge backlog of games I’ve bought on sale knowing I would enjoy them, but never got around to playing them. It’s well over 50% of my game library. The problem for me is that a good game that you really like can easily eat multiple

Not the greatest article, but I love the idea of a fire truck that arrives with fire resistant drones that swarm out, each autonomously extinguishing a small section of fire using sound waves and mist. Definitely still a science-fiction ide

The problem with bug reporting is that they rarely seem to get fixed. I used to do a lot more bug reports. But you often hear back nothing, and then the bug is never fixed, even if it would be an easy fix. These days, I don't often rep

Couldn’t it just be that EVs are highly combustible and prone to spontaneous ignition? It may be that we just need better means of shipping these vehicles so that they are less likely to catch fire in an uncontrollable way (maybe with the b

Five kids here, and I’ve found the same thing. Even though we’ve raised them all the same way, they are each unique individuals with very different behavior. Before kids I was very much on the “nuture” side of nature vs. nuture, but now I
