A proof-of-work system intentionally wastes energy as a means of doing a distributed spreadsheet. That's it. When you use scale that spreadsheet to track currency, a proof-of-work system wastes massive amounts of energy, by design, all

The reality is, if crypto requires a proof of work system that burns energy for nothing, it’s not a system we as a society should be using.

With proof-of-work, we as a society are doing insane things like burning large amounts of fossil fuels on a warming planet just to ensure people don’t cheat at various distributed spreadsheets. Even if you don’t participate in crypto, those

I have this. It’s pretty uncommon for me but happens every once in a while. I have heard it’s no big deal. My imagined explanation is that it is a muscle that spasms and temporarily blocks sound to the ear, but actually I have no idea.

Same. I've never been a huge StackOverflow user, but it is so irritating to search and find your exact question on StackOverflow, often as the top result, only to see that it was instantly shut down two years ago as a duplicate of so

That makes sense. I too use Obsidian for just about all of my notes (and nvAlt before that -- my Obsidian notes archive dates back over thirteen years). I think the key difference is that I don't use the Git CLI on a daily basis, so d

Honestly this sounds a bit cumbersome. I built my blog years ago using Puput ( https://github.com/APSL/puput ) and Render, and it has been running strong with minimal maintenance since then, with hundreds of posts. The s

This looks nice but the “custom everything” approach sounds awful. Over time one of the custom software components will break and the amount of time you spend fixing it will likely ultimately outweigh the benefit of the calendar in the firs

I feel bad mentioning Kagi so much. But it’s a better product and I also want other people to use it so that it sticks around. Honestly it was odd to read an article about leaving Google search as if it was a momentous thing. $10/month

Why not just go for the MBA instead of the MBP? The MBA is lightning fast and can have 32 gb RAM. It seems like exactly what you want - a touch lighter (.7 lbs lighter!) and smaller but still crazy good.

The MBA (MacBook Air) easily beats the MBP in my opinion. 32GB ram, M4 CPU really is enough for the vast vast majority of tasks. I use mine to process video and 40 megapixel RAW images, and it flies. And the portability is significantly bet

Yeah I used to do 2-4 2-liters per day before I gave it up around 12 years ago. I’m hoping that, to the extent it does damage, the effect stops when you stop drinking it.

It’s not clear what good the midterms can do. It appears likely that the Supreme Court will hold that the president has the power to make these cuts regardless of any laws passed by congress. And even if he didn’t have that power already, h
