Correction: any price within range of comps. I assumed that was implied when talking about housing, but okay. The point I was making is that houses sold quickly regardless of how low they were priced relative to comps. It was/is a bubb

For the last 2 years in particular, strategy had nothing to do with it. In most “active” markets, houses went pending almost immediately, regardless of price. It was fueled by low rates, easy access to capital, and FOMO.

For work: Backend and distributed systems in general. For fun: Emulation! I’ve only written one emulator so far (Gameboy Color), but I’ll probably do more in the future :)

Rust enums are a form of tagged unions. Rust unions are plain old unions that are mainly used for C interop. This is why using them requires unsafe code.

I’ve been using this for a while now, and it has been working like a charm!

Thanks for explaining. You made a claim outside of your personal experience, so expect to be asked to back it up. I’m not sure why you’re surprised.

Citation needed. Wikipedia at least says that they were acquired while Alyx was in development and that they just joined the overall dev team.

I’ve heard of par2 through Usenet, but I’ll definitely do some more reading. Thanks for the pointer!

The same roughly applies to Arabic: Sunday (derived from one) to Thursday (derived from five). The word for Friday seems to be derived from “gathering” (probably due to weekly Islamic mass) and Saturday seems to derived from “sleep” (?).

The Arabic/Islamic calendar starts at Sunday because the weekend is Friday and Saturday. In Islam, the weekly congregation (mass equivalent) takes place on Friday around noon.

The local ZFS array is the “source of truth”. ZFS has built-in end-to-end checksumming. I also have a monthly scrub that should correct any untouched corrupt blocks. Details on ZFS checksums: https://openzfs.github.io/openzf

Same here. I lost some photos years back and decided to never make that same mistake. My backup flow is: phone, iCloud, local ZFS array served by PhotoPrism (synced using PhotoSync), Backblaze.

You’re still skirting the question. The victims (understandably) sued every party they could to maximize their chances. But being sued does not imply guilt. Anyways, we’ve gone too far into the weeds here.

So in general, you’re saying that we should blame invasive procedures that take place in airports on the impacted airlines? Would you blame Lufthansa if the passengers happened to be removed from one of their planes in Qatar? The fact that

    by Cyph0n 4y ago

Not sure how this is relevant. Was the airline even involved here? Or should we consider all invasive searches and investigations ever conducted in hub airports as part of airline quality?

Yep, Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar are top tier carriers. You will almost never have bad service with them, but if you do, they’ll always compensate you for your troubles.

Out of curiosity, can you share examples of popular libraries that were difficult to get working correctly?

Well put. Take advantage of parental leave as much as you can. Once you’re about a month or two in and are able to “breathe” a bit more, you can think about looking for a new job.

Yep, it was the same in the Middle East. Immigrants and travelers to Europe and the US frequently brought back electronics, including game consoles. They were then modchipped locally.

    by Cyph0n 4y ago

Thanks for noting that. My experience growing up in the Middle East was very skewed towards Sony consoles.

Very similar story to mine haha! I started off with a modchipped PS1, and was only able to buy titles from PS3 onwards.

A console being sold in a country doesn’t mean it was bought to be used there. Many travelers and immigrants brought consoles back home for family.

You underestimate the impact of piracy in developing countries. It’s true that almost no one bought games at full price, so Sony was only seeing unit sales. However, once these countries developed further and the people who grew up with PS
