Well, C is not the same as C++. It even says in that doc that “this extension is not implemented in C++”.

I re-read the top-level comment and don’t see where the “hates the work” assumption is coming from. Or is expecting to be compensated fairly for effort a form of hating work?

To be honest, the naming is a bit confusing. Here is my understanding: - Nix: build system and package manager (available on Linux and macOS) - Nix: language used to define how to build packages - nixpkgs: Nix package monorepo - NixOS: Linu

1. We are not talking about physical books. 2. DRM is built in to most purchased ebooks, which means you can’t consume the book on any device. “Illegal” tools exist to circumvent this. 3. Large ebook stores - like other digital stores - ess

What if the error was more descriptive out of the box? Unless of course the goal is to just compete with C++ error reporting.

TF2 (another Valve game) is an excellent option if you want something more casual/low stress and also flexible when it comes to time (no penalties on leaving since it’s a casual game).

For Rust and Go in particular, the difference is in the standard library. The Rust stdlib is (intentionally) small.

Thanks for explaining. How do you identify such byte patterns that are likely stable across builds? Is it experimental - i.e., look at a few versions of the binary and check if it has changed?

You could reasonably argue that, but only for now. The precedent set here opens a can of worms that we should aim to close sooner rather than later. But the mechanism we are using is one and the same - this is essentially the launch of a “G

I understand the nuances just fine. Nowhere have I said that China is innocent here. Does this ban alone make the US as authoritarian as China? Of course not. But I also understand that an outright ban of a social media platform is an autho

I will try to reiterate my initial point since people keep losing track: banning TikTok is a slippery slope that moves us in the direction of China’s GFW, and we can longer claim a moral highground once we do. As far as this ban goes, there

Not at all. I know that Chinese censorship exists. You - or others, lost track since multiple people are involved here - are the one who’s trying to argue that US censorship does not exist, even in light of this TikTok ban. Also, you probab

Yes. I also realize that a democratic system allows for making decisions that do not align with such a system, and can in fact destroy such a system from within. Is this not what we have all been saying about Trump? Or are you saying that i

How about you record a 30s clip of atrocities committed by the IDF in Gaza and watch how quickly it will be “moderated” into oblivion.

By the same token, the Chinese ban on US apps is not censorship, correct? So if you accept to cede control we will leave you alone. Blackmail, in other words, exactly like China does it.

Blanket censorship of this kind is not the hallmark of a healthy democracy. This ban is the definition of a slippery slope - this ban may be in your interests, but eventually one will not. What then?

If stooping down to their level is the move we make, then we should immediately stop acting as if we are more “free” or democratic than China. You can’t have it both ways.

If that helps you understand it better, then sure. All I am trying to say is that the name of the option makes sense as-is: it literally runs the provided command(s) on service stop (“execute on stop”). Similarly, ExecStart literally means

True, but it still makes sense to reason about them this way. Say you have an HTTP server: - on start: start the server - on stop: do nothing, because you are already terminating the server But suppose you need to perform an additional task

I think about them as “on start” and “on stop”. It is important to keep in mind that systemd is tailored towards daemons. So if your service just runs a command that eventually exits, you need to explicitly tell systemd to treat it differen
