I think we're showing our evolutionary background, in particular greed. Having our monetary system essentially controlled by powerful private interests is a disaster too.

> What has bothered me lately, very much so, is how in-the-minority I feel about this "social crisis" that I feel is occurring: hurting people/ourselves in pursuit of money that we won't personally even see. (In-the-m

I agree it's catalog is rubbish, but in Australia there are a great many Bollywood, Nollywood and various other International films influxing lately. Can't imagine what a mess all this licensing etc is. Such a non-productive waste

I was pleasantly surprised my place had FTTN (100/50 I think I can get if needed). Absolute boondocks of Tassie, mostly agricultural/tradesfolk I'd guess. Seems odd but I'm glad they did.

I agree (and probably made it on to a list or two). Our government agencies don't even need a warrant to see our call/web/email metadata now. Even the RSPCA can access it.

I just don't understand this, even if students were asking for it. It's a poor language whipped up in a week or two - is it really what you want to base someone's first exposure to programming on?

Why on earth?? I don't get why the engine would be executing JavaScript, even if it were sandboxed, in the first place? That doesn't sound sensible.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of critical thinking done by developers at times. They'll read a blog post, echo chamber the benefits over some kale juice and start hacking away.

Oh I have to get this off my chest. So many companies saying "Yes, we're sort of agile, but we have a fairly bureaucratic structure that is unamenable to change". If you're not agile, stop lying about it. I saw a job on

These scumbags are actively ruining computing. Cars, bridges, infrastructure... can't these warhawks pick on something else? Then you get the NSA, the ASD, the rest of the clowns coming in and ruining it, and what is the point? Are we

The final straw for me was an outsourced dev asking me about time estimates for an agile project that other developers had estimated for. "How much time will this take?" (Very demanding Asian boss in Australia Post) "No idea,

That's talking about me in my younger days. Everything looks exciting, until you realize it's all patterns that have been done before.

To be fair, the original post is coming from an AdmiralAsshat. What can anyone do? This corporate free-for-all seems like it's established (de-facto) in the United States, and all countries must bow to the US because of their military

Ah geez. Time to create a competent chip manufacturer. Anyone got a spare US sized military budget?

I think the problem is, it's very configurable. To the point, some towered architect somewhere can make those decisions for you, about how you want to work, in your absence. Out of the box, I'm not sure, I don't think I'

Personally never tried it, but after Microsoft SourceSafe, it'll take a few centuries to ever use their products again.

Yep, you get a developer invested in something, they'll swear black and blue it's the best thing since sliced bread. Till you explain it to them.

I was hoping Gitlab filled this space. I keep hoping someone else will fill this space without doing any work. Time to dust off the open source hands! anyone that knows my code shudders in anticipation

None. I think like everything IBM, Microsoft, and now Atlassian, no-one ever lost their job by using Jira. i.e. the masses have formed an opinion, Jira won't get you fired. Something else will, so if in doubt, use Jira. Lot of people i

When all you have to do is hold meetings and decide these issues, that's all you can do :) We're a foolish species most of the time.

I think we need to remove the word 'conspiracy' from the English language, it's been abused too well by propaganda. I thought I might be safe with an APU-2 device as a firewall (AMD chip, don't know if they have the same
